Marwar Festival
The Marwar Festival, originally called the Maand Festival, named after the classical folk music of the region also known by the same name, is one of the most popular festivals of Rajasthan and brilliantly showcases the Marwar region’s music and dance. The festival is held for two days and centers on the folk music of the region. It effectively highlights the romance and lifestyle of the erstwhile kings and royalty of Rajasthan. The Marwar festival is held in Jodhpur on the full moon day of Sharad Poornima every year in the Hindu month of Ashwin which falls between September and October of the English calendar.

The theme of the Marwar festival is the soothing, catchy and rhythmic folk music of Marwar. Folk singers and folk dancers from the nearby region come to this hugely popular Jodhpur festival to entertain the large crowd which gathers religiously every year at the magnificent setting offered by the famous Mehrangarh Fort, the famed Mandore and the iconic Umaid Bhawan Palace.
About the Location
The Mehrangarh Fort sits atop a rock-strewn hill at a height of 125 meters from the ground. The city is surrounded by a gigantic wall that runs for a whole of 10 km and includes eight gates and umpteen bastions. The fortress city was once a leading trade center and has now emerged as the biggest city of Rajasthan.

The Marwar festival that honors the past heroes of Rajasthan is devoted to the region’s music and dance. It brings to life the celebrated folklores of the area who sing praises of the bygone heroes with absolute vibrancy. The dancers mesmerize the crowd with their brilliant moves even as they carry earthen pots on their heads and move to the rhythm of the songs sung by the singers.
