Sawai Madhopur
This city is a Municipal Corporation in the state of Rajasthan at Sawai Madhopur District. Sawai Madhopur is also the headquarter administration. The most famous and important landmark in this district are the Ranthambore Fort which is a UNESCO world Heritage Site and the Ranthambore National Park. In the earlier days, this district was rules by the Bargujar relatives and the Raja Hammir Dev who was a Rajout King of the Chauhan dynasty. This locality was later destroyed by Allaudin Khiljee. This planned city was built by the Maharaja of Jaipur from 1750 to 1768, Sawai Madho Singh I and then named his township after his name. This district is famous for the affectionately known ‘Madhopur guavas’ in Rajasthan.
Sawai Madhopur – The District
This district is surrounded from the north by Dausa district; Tonk from the east, Southest has the Bundi district, Karauli in the northwest and Kota and Chambal River from the southwest direction. This district is in the Western India in the state of Rajasthan. Sawaimadhopur town is the administrative center of this district.
Ganesh Chaturthi Fair
The largest and the most famous fair of Sawai Madhopur is the Ganesh Chaturthi Fair which is organized on the day of Bhadav Shukla Chaturthi at the very famous Ganesh Temple at the Ranthambore Fort. This fair is a popular fair in the state of Rajasthan and many people visit this fair to experience the rich cultural heritage. More than 3-4 lakhs of devotees are seen becoming a part of this fair which is held for three days.
Ranthambore National Park
This famous national park is one of the largest national parks of India and is at a distance of 11 kms from Sawai Madhopur. It was earlier named as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in the year 1955 by the Indian Government and was one of the Project Tiger Reserves in the year 1973. It later on in the year 1980 became a national park and the closeby forests were then called as the Keladevi Sanctuary and Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary and it was later on increased in the year 1991 to include these two mentioned sanctuaries.
Ranthambore Fort
The rich history of this district is around this famous Ranthambore fort which is surrounded by the Aravalis and the Vindhyas. Between the huge and denuded tracts of Rajasthan, stands the great Ranthanbore Fort and no one is aware of its year of establishment.
This fort is inaccessible and the strength of this very fort was a major challenge as the rulers of the medivieval and ancient India from Agra and Delhi were very keen to acquire this great heritage. Rao Hamir was one of the most well known rulers of this fort who ruled around 1296 AD.
Love, patriotism and valour are the main inspirations when one talk about this fort and it has been mentioned that none of the rulers had a comfortable spell of time at this fort despite of its strength of geography. Indian culture and philosophy are very well reflected in this fort. Mahadeo Chhatri, Toran Dwar, Sameton ki Haveli, Mosque, Ganesh Temple and the 32 pillared chattri are some of the interesting things to see inside this fort.
Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum of Natural History
A museum in Sawai Madhopur which is very famous is known as the Rajiv Gandi Regional Museum of Natural History which shows and depicts the geology, animals and plants found in the Western region of India. This museum is locateds at a distance of 9 kms from Sawai Madhopur close to Ramsinghpura village.
Shri M Hamid Ansary who was the then Vice President of India kept the first foundation stone on 23rd December 2007. This project was then taken up by the Ministry of Environment and Forests of the Indian Government. This is one of those 4 major museums after Bhubaneshwar, Mysore and Bhopal.
This center was formed to create awareness through the items exhibited and educate people about the nature and the natural resources. It gives an insight of the life on the earth and the importance of its conservation.
