Bundi is the prominent place of attraction with many site seeing places. The Nawal Sagar Lake is a beautiful lakes located in Bundi. This Lake provides a cool and peaceful feeling for the tourists. The experience of visiting this beautiful lake is sure to rejenuvate and pump in extra energy for the tourists. Hence, a visit to Bundi is incomplete without visiting Nawal Sagar Lake.

Nawal Sagar Lake is an artificial lake located in the middle of the city. The reflection of the Bundi Fort falling on the lake gives an excellent effect. Many tourists visit this place to witness this spectacular phenomenon which has received worldwide attention.

Nawal Sagar Lake also has a temple in the middle of the lake dedicated to Varuna. The main attraction of the temple is that it is half submerged in water and is also a popular religious place in Hindu religion. This Lake was an important source of water supply to the numerous step wells located in Bundi.

History

Bundi is a city with great historic importance located in the south-eastern part of Rajasthan state. The city is named after Bunda, a chiften of Meena tribe. The state of Bundi came into existence in 1342 by Rao Deva who was the chieftain of Chauhan clan of Rajputs. 

Attractions

Taragarh

Taragarh Fort is one of the elegant forts in Rajasthan located on top of a hill covered with trees all around. It has a large water tank which was once upon a time a source of water supply to the palace.

Chitrashala

The Palace has a beautiful pavilion which houses numerous miniature paintings depicting the Raslila and Ragmala of Radha Krishna. The most striking feature of these paintings is that colors of rainbow are used for the paintings.  

Chattar Mahal

It is also called Palace of Towers. Some of the site seeing places in this monument is the Naubat Khana, water clock, Diwan-i-Am, Hathi Pole and Hazrat Pole.  

Rattan Daulat

The stable to accommodate nine horses and a Hatia Pol was built by Rao Raja Ratan Singhji. This is an elegant structure.  

Ranjit-ki-Baori

A deep step well of 46 meter depth containing arched gate and well decorated carvings on pillars is a major attraction in the old city.

SuKh Mahal

A palace which served as the summer palace for the Rajput kings with beautiful gardens is worth watching.

Phool Sagar

Phool Sagar Lake is located at a distance of eight km North West of Bundi. Permission of the Secretary under whom the maintenance of the premises is held is required for visiting this lake.  

Shikar Burj

This royal hunting lodge is located south of Phool Sagar Lake in the lush green location. It is a fantastic picnic spot.  

Shar Bagh

Shar Bagh is the Cenotaphs of Kings and Queens of Bundi speaking about their rich grandeur and glorious past. It also has a well maintained green garden.

Chaurasi Stambh Chhatri

It is a memorial constructed by Rao Anirudh in the 17th century containing 84 pillars in a single chhattri along with a Shiv-linga.

Best time to Visit

The summer season remains very extreme with temperature rising above 40°C in Bundi. The period between June to September is the monsoon period and Bundi receives heavy rainfall. It is not at all suitable to visit this part of the world during the monsoon period. The winter season from mid October to mid March is the ideal period for tourists with temperature remaining very pleasant. Thousands of tourists visit this place during this pleasant weather.

How to Reach

By Air

The nearest Airport is the Sanganer airport in Jaipur which is located at a distance of 200 km from Bundi. Jaipur being the state capital of Rajasthan is well connected with several low fare airlines from major destinations of the country. Tourists can hire taxis or take private/govt buses to reach Bundi. Nawal Sagar Lake is located at a distance of 8 km from Bundi.

By Road

The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation provides excellent connectivity between Bundi to other cities like Jaipur, Kota, Agra, Ajmer and New Delhi by road. The nearest major city is Kota located at a distance of 35 km.

By Train

Kota Railway Station located at a distance of 35 km is the nearest railway head. There are numerous North and South bound trains passing through this station. Taxis and bus services can be taken to reach Kota Railway station from Bundi.
