Cities and Destinations In Rajasthan

Rajasthan is a major tourist destination spot in India which attracts both international as well as domestic tourists. Rajasthan has a rich historical heritage which can be summed up in its forts, palaces, culture, folklores, local art, etc. Majority of foreign tourists who visit India also try to visit Rajasthan. This is because Rajasthan is the golden place for international tourists in India.

Due to interest by both international and domestic tourists the tourism industry of Rajasthan is flourishing. Various cities in Rajasthan are famous for various different things. Jaipur is famous for its palaces, Udaipur for its lakes and Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Jodhpur for its deserts. These are the most preferable tourist locations for both international and domestic tourists. The state’s domestic product comprises of 8% of the total tourism revenue. The hospitality sector provides a lot of employment in the state. Old forts and palaces in Rajasthan have been converted into heritage hotels to give the tourists a taste of true Rajasthani royalty.

Jaipur

Jaipur which is also known as Pink City is one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of India. The city of Jaipur is full of temples, colorful markets, palaces, forts, havelis, heritage hotels, etc. Shopping in Jaipur is quite fun. There are also many other activities to keep the tourists occupied.

Jodhpur

Jodhpur is also known as the Blue City of India is one of the most beautiful cities situated in Rajasthan. Jodhpur is situated on the extreme end of the Great Thar Desert. It is a beautiful oasis in this vast desert. Rao Jodha who was a very popular Rajput Leader and belonged to the Rathore Clan of Rajputs was the one who founded the city of Jodhpur in 1459 AD.

Jaisalmer

The city of Jaisalmer is also known as The Golden City of India. It was founded in 1156 AD by Rawal Jaisal, a Rajput King. It is famous for its amazing palaces, havelis, forts and temples.

Chittorgarh

Chittorgarh used to be the Rajput capital of the state. It still reminisces the proud and glorious days of the Rajasthani Rajputs. In historical times many battles were fought to acquire Chittorgarh. It was ruled by brave and gallant Rajputs who lived a life of honor and pride. This historical city was said to be attacked three times by enemy forces. Each time it was fiercely protected by its valiant Rajput rulers.

Mandawa

Mandawa lies in the Shekhawat region of Rajasthan and is located in the Jhunjhunu district. It is situated at a distance of 190 kilometers from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. The small town of Mandawa lies between longitude 75°.20' in the east and latitude 28°.06' in the north.

Udaipur

Udaipur which is more popularly known as The Lake City of India is the most romantic and picture perfect place in all of Rajasthan. In 1599 AD, Maharana Udai Singh founded the beautiful lake city of Udaipur. It was situated alongside Lake Pichola. Two other lakes are also situated here. It is a favorite holiday destination for tourists on honeymoon.

Ajmer

Ajmer is located 130 kilometers away from Jaipur in the south west direction. It is a small religious town which is situated on the shores of Ana Sagar. It is surrounded by flanked hills on sides. It is an important pilgrimage for both Muslims and Hindus in India. You are able to see the religious side of Rajasthan in Ajmer.

Mount Abu

The only hill station that you will find in Rajasthan is Mount Abu. The sudden cold and mild climate of this place is a huge relief to tourists who are visiting the state of Rajasthan. It is located at 1220 meter altitude above sea level. It is surrounded by the lush green and beautiful Aravalli hills. This place is best visited during the summers when the rest of the state is exposed to the scorching heat of the sun.

Pushkar Ajmer

Pushkar which is 12 kilometers away from Ajmer and 135 kilometers away from Jaipur is a small town which holds great importance to Hindu pilgrims. There are over 400 temples in the small town of Pushkar. It is famous for its Pushkar Lake which houses the only Brahma temple in India.

Bikaner

Bikaner is situated in the North West district of Rajasthan. It is 330 kilometers away from Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. It used to be a princely state during historical times. Now it is the administrative headquarter for Bikaner Division and Bikaner District.

Ranakpur

Ranakpur which is situated in the mountains of the Pali region is located 23 kilometers away from the railway station at Phalna. The train ride to Manakpur is an exciting one as you are able to enjoy the lush green beauty of the forests and the mountains on the way.
