Kamala Nehru Park

Kamala Nehru Park is located in the elite Malabar Hill area of Mumbai and ranks among the top tourist destinations of Mumbai. Spread over 4,000 square feet, the park provides a spectacular view of the famous Chowpatty Beach and the Marine Drive area. Visitors can get a stunning view of the Queen’s Necklace of the Marine Drive at night from the Park. It is dedicated to Kamala, the spouse of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

The Shoe House

Kamala Nehru Park is also popularly known as the Shoe House as it has a large concrete structure shaped in the form of a shoe complete with heels and laces. Inspired by a popular nursery rhyme, ‘The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe’, the structure has steps inside through which visitors can reach the first floor for a better view of the park.

The Perfect Picnic Spot for Children

Kamala Nehru Park was built in 1952 and is one of the few parks in Mumbai where you can always find a quiet, green patch of land to enjoy a few moments of natural bliss. The whole place has a lush, green look and is extremely well maintained. The park has an unusual and exotic collection of topiary in the form of various animals.

Children simply love to spend hours here, hopping from one topiary to another. The vast expanse of the place makes it possible for children and grownups to spend hours on end here on a lazy, leisurely day without getting bored. The place is perfect for school excursions as students can have a great time here.

A Large Variety of Flowers and Lots of Trees

Kamala Nehru Park has a large variety of flowers and green lawns that give the place a stunning look. There are lots of trees that spread their shade across the lawns. For Mumbai citizens who often find it difficult to find a quiet and peaceful place, the park is the perfect place for spending some quality time, away from the din and clamor of the busy city life.

A Great Place for Relaxation

One of the key reasons why Kamala Nehru Park attracts visitors is its vast space, well-maintained lawns and cool environs. Visitors can simply sit on one of the many concrete benches provided in the park and laze around for hours. Kamala Nehru Park is one of the few heritage places that remains insulated from rampant commercialization. Entry is free for both Indian and foreign tourists.
