  • It is located at Katraj at a distance of about 8 Km from the city of Pune.
  • The major attraction of the park is 9 feet long and six years old King Cobra which was brought from Sunderbans.

Established in 1986, this amazing snake park is located on the Pune - Satara highway at Katraj. Later in 1999, it became a part of Rajiv Gandhi Udyan. This snake park is home to several species of snakes and some rare varieties of reptiles including crocodiles.  Recently, a zoo has been added in the park premises to add to its charm.

This snake park is highly popular for its work towards its inhabitants. This park is equipped with some innovative communication methods which provide vital information about the snakes, and there are Braille for providing snake oriented information to the blind people..  Except for Wednesdays, this park is open for all seven days of the week between 10.30 am - 6 pm.

Many programs and festivals are held in the park for eliminating popular myths pertaining to these dreaded species and for spreading awareness about them. This park also discourages the mistreatment to the snakes during Nag Panchami, which is celebrated in this park at very grand level.

Architecture and Animals

This animal conservation park, boasts a wide variety of snakes, turtles, reptiles and birds. There are about 160 species of snakes in the park of different shapes and sizes.

The park houses a very rare species of Brown Palm Civet, which as per records is the only specimen of its kind being kept in captivity. There is another attraction, which is a 9 feet long King Cobra, which was brought from Sunderbans to this park.

How to Reach

Pune is very well connected by with rest of the country via rail, road and. Once you reach Pune, you can hire a taxi, a local bus or an auto-rickshaw to reach the park. The Katraj snake park lies at a distance of 8 Kms from Pune and is quite near to Katraj bus depot.

Best Time to Visit

Pune maintains a pleasant climate throughout the year. The summers are a bit hot but winters are very pleasant and thus, give excellent opportunity to the tourists to visit the place. One can enjoy a visit to Pune between September and February.

From March onwards, summers commence and mercury starts rising up. The maximum temperature in winters may go up to 42 degree Celsius, however, that's not the case always. April and May are the hottest months of the summer.

From June onwards, monsoon begins which though is not accompanied by very heavy rainfall but is not an apt time to visit the city.

Winters are pleasant and starting from September, these continue till February making it the perfect time to visit Pune.
