The state of Maharashtra is a favorite among the tourists. The people of Maharashtra are very gracious and supportive. The famous towns and cities in Maharashtra have been running many tourist guide centers that are looked by the state and central government.

There are uncountable tourist destinations spread all over the state. The history of the state is as old as 2000 years. The monuments in state of Maharashtra resemble the architecture of Buddhist, Hindu and Jain type of structure. There is the famous rock-cut structure that goes back to 200 BC. The most famous caves of the entire state are located in the city of Aurangabad located at a distance of 400 km towards the eastern direction of Mumbai. Aurangabad has been named after Aurangzeb, a Mughal Emperor. The commercial city of Aurangabad is majorly visited for its World Heritage caves named Ajanta and Ellora. The caves of Ajanta and Ellora have been carved by the Buddhist monks during 200 BC and 650 AD. The caves of Ajanta and Ellora are adorned with beautiful statuette and figures.

The Ellora caves has a total of 34 temples that resemble the Buddhist, Jain and Hindu temple structures that came into existence in 350 AD and 1000 AD. The state of Maharashtra is majorly famous for its different temples. During the month of March, the festival held in Ellora caves brings the temple to life with traditional classical dances and music performed in the background.

The state of Maharashtra houses people from various communities who have given a colorful look to the state because of different cuisines, costumes, dance, music and many other distinguishable looks. The common costumes worn by the men in the state in the past were dhoti and pheta whereas the women used to wear choli and a saree. With the passage of time, people in Maharashtra have started wearing modern clothes.

  • The women tourists are advised to wear loose fitted clothes since it is unsafe to wear fitted clothes in the state.
  • The late night strolls should be avoided and not only the tourists but also the locals are advised to move in groups during night.
  • Being friendlier with the taxi or auto drivers could be unsafe.
  • Talking to strangers or taking any eatable from them should be strictly avoided. If one is pressurized to take any offerings from strangers, they should take it and instigate to consume it later.
  • Carrying a large sum of money could be unsafe.

  • Roadside eatables should be avoided since there are chances of getting affected with stomach infections.
  • Already cut fruits and salads should not be consumed and it is advised to eat cooked food rather than raw food from outside.
  • The water served on roadsides should also be avoided, instead sealed bottle water should be consumed.
  • Non-vegetarian food should be consumed from hygienic places rather than roadside eateries.
  • Since the weather in the state is hot, it is advised that people should consume lots of water especially during the summers.

The most favorable time to visit the state is during the months of October to February. Maharashtra is among the states that are most likely visited by a large number of tourists. Travelers can visit the different tastes in the state like its beaches, temples and its heritage monuments. The weather conditions in the state must be considered before visiting the state so as to enjoy the best of the places in the entire state. So considering the best months to visit the state of Maharashtra months of October to February is most favorable for visit.

Travel in Maharashtra

The buses owned by the state government run to and fro in the entire state of Maharashtra. The buses run under the Maharashtra Transport on the roads carrying the passengers smoothly on well networked roads of the state. The other modes of transport that run are taxis, auto rickshaw and the deluxe buses run by private transport owners. The most important means of transport are passenger trains that connect the major cities of the entire state. The most individual city rail network in the state can be seen in Mumbai that is used as a major transport medium by the people of the city.
