Having a part of both the Eastern and Western Ghats is one of the major blessings for the state of Tamil Nadu. Due to this, there is no dearth of natural beauty in the state. Every corner of the state has something or the other to offer its guests. Waterfalls in the state are preferred tourist spots by many travellers, coming from near and far destinations. These places are crowded during the summer seasons as many people come here to enjoy a splash and get a reprieve from the scorching rays of the sun. Kids love to take bath in the waters that form at the base of these waterfalls, while adults love to enjoy the fresh and cool splash of waters on their bodies, as it makes them feel refreshed.

Famous Waterfalls in Tamil Nadu

Hogenakkal Falls

Easily one of the best waterfalls in the state, the Hogenakkal Falls is located in the district of Dharmapuri. The beauty of this spot can be easily understood from its nickname, “Niagara of India”. These waterfalls are so scenic and beautiful, that they are one of the major tourist spots in the country. It is located on Kaveri River. The lengthiest drop of this spot is at around 20m. The waters here are considered to have medicinal properties, which has increased its popularity to a great extent. Also, there are many activities here for keeping visitors entertained, which makes Hogenakkal Falls a fun-place to visit. Enjoy boat rides while you are here, because they are allowed only at times when the flow of water is not too strong.

Monkey Falls

Located on the Aliyar Dam between the scenic spots of Valparai and Pollachi, Monkey Falls can be found in the district of Coimbatore. It is located inside the Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and is loved by adventure enthusiasts as it has an awesome trekking trail. However it should be done only after taking prior approval from the Forest Department of Tamil Nadu. The height of these falls is around 60 feet and they can be easily accessed as it is quite close to the famous place of Pollachi –a place known for its film shootings.

Silver Cascade

These waterfalls are located in the hill station of Kodaikanal. It has a height of 55m and is known for its beautiful locale.  A visit to the hill station is definitely incomplete if you return without seeing the waterfalls of Silver Cascade. This place provides a great view of the surroundings and is perfect spot for photography. However, not many people recommend bathing in this place as the water is not of good quality here.

Some of the other famous waterfalls in the state of Tamil Nadu are Pambar Falls, Bear Shola Falls, Fairy Falls, Thalaiyar Falls, near Kodaikkanal, Kodiveri Waterfalls, Vaideki Waterfalls and Siruvani Waterfalls near Coimbatore, Catherine Falls and Law’s Falls near Coonoor, Olakkay Aruvi and Thiruparappu Watetrfalls near Kanyakumari, Kumbakarai Waterfalls and Suruli Waterfcalls near Madurai, Kalhatty Falls and Pykara Falls near Ooty, Kutralam Falls, Five Falls and Pazhaya Coutralam Aruvi near Tenkasi, and finally Agaya Gangai Waterfalls and Puliyancholai Falls near Tiruchirappalli.
