Pykara Falls

Pykara is a small village located near Ooty in Tamil Nadu. A river, by the same name, flows through this village and is considered very sacred by the Todas. Pykara River originates from the Mukurthi peak and flows northwards through Pykara and Glen Morgan dams while forming a part of one of the most vital hydro-electric projects of south India.

Pykara River flows through a series of waterfalls and cascades, and the last row of 55 and 61 metres falls is known as Pykara falls. Pykara is an amazing place to visit which boasts of well protected Toda settlements, fenced shoals, wildlife habitat and large grassy meadows.

Pykara falls and dam are one of the major attractions for the ones who visit Ooty.

Pykara falls are located in Pykara village at a distance of 19 Km from Ooty in Tamil Nadu.

Activities to Do

Pykara Falls present incredible scenic views to its visitors. One can also enjoy a stay in the boat house on Pykara reservoir. This boat house also has a restaurant. While on the boat house, you can also enjoy rides in speed boats.

How to Reach

Pykara is located quite near to Ooty which is one of the famous hill stations of south India. On reaching Ooty, you can hire a taxi or board a bus to reach Pykara.

The nearest airport to Pykara falls is located at a distance of 68 Km in Coimbatore. Regular taxi service is available from Coimbatore to Pykara.

By Rail

The nearest railway station to Pykara falls is Lovedale train station located at a distance of about 14 Km.

By Road

The nearest bus station is located in Lovedale and Ooty.
