The Sholavaram lake is located between 13°13'25"N  and 80°8'26"E. The Sholavaram town is on the border of Thiruvallur district and Chennai district. The Sholovaram town, which is 24 km from Chennai,  is mainly famous for Sholavaram lake and motor racing. The Sholavaram lake is a great picnic spot for all.


Rainfall is the main source of water in the Sholavaram lake. Water from Krishna river gets stored in the Sholavaram lake and other lakes near Chennai city. Increased drinking water requirements in Chennai have been fulfilled by water in the Sholavaram lake. Most of the year, the atmosphere is humid and hot. The highest temperature is 40°C in May and the lowest temperature is 20°C in January.
