The Garhwali Museum holds a collection of the elements associated with the renowned Garhwal Regiment. Set up in 1987, it is situated at the Garhwal Rifles Regimental Center at Lansdowne. It has an amazing exhibition of customs and traditions of the regiment, portraits of brave soldiers, documents associated with World War I and II, war trophies, antiques related to the war and other times, old uniforms and dresses, battle scenes from Pre-Independence and Post Independence and so on. The town was earlier known as Kaludanda. The beauty of the town enhances with the lush oak and pine trees surrounding the place.

Climate

Lansdowne is a beautiful town which has varying climate through the year. Winters are cold but summers are enjoyable. Summer months are from March to June and since it is not too hot, it is an enjoyable weather. Winters arrive from December to February. Sometimes, temperature falls to subzero level and it can get extremely and severely cold. Snowfalls occur throughout winters and that is a sight to behold and one of the astonishing features of Lansdowne.

Best Time to Visit

If you enjoy cold winters and would love to watch snowfall, then you might consider visiting Lansdowne during winters, though the best time to visit the place is from March to October.

Timings

The museum is open on all days from 9.00 A.M. to 12.00 noon except on holidays and Sundays.

How to Reach

Lansdowne can be reached from Kothdwar railway station. Mussoorie express and Garhwal express are the two trains that run from Delhi to Kothdwar.

From Haridwar, buses are available to reach Kothdwar. Private or shared cabs are available from the station to Lansdowne.  Shared cabs will be better because it just charges Rs. 70 per person and are also not that crowded.
