Jharia Pani Falls is a gushing natural waterfall ideal for a family outing. The lush greenery and the excellent landscape would rejoice your mind and body.  It is an excellent place to click some pictures and merriment.

Jharipani Falls is located in the Jharipani village at a distance of eight km from Mussoorie. Some of the finest schools of Mussoorie are located in the nearby vicinity. This is an ideal place for fun lovers, nature enthusiasts and trekker. One can witness an excellent view of the Shivalik range from Jharipani village. The surroundings of the water falls have thick growth of creepers, shrubs and wild flowers which gives a mesmerizing look to the place.  The nearby agricultural fields provide a picturesque location and complete relaxation for the people in holiday mood.

Best Time to Visit

Even though the weather remains pleasant throughout the years as compared to the plains, the best time to visit this place is between Sep to June. Honeymoon couples can visit the place during the winter season. Water sports enthusiast can visit the place post monsoon between Sep to Nov.

  • Visitors are advised to carry sufficient winter clothes as the night is really cool.
  • Also it won’t be a bad idea to carry umbrellas or raincoats as these parts experience unpredictable rain.
  • Carry small pack of food and water while going for trekking.
  • Book your accommodations in advance to avoid mad rush during the season and enjoy a comfortable vacation.

  • Kempty Falls: It is located at a distance of 21 km from Jhari Pani Falls. It is a beautiful waterfall where water falls from a height of 40 feet from the mountain providing thrilling experience to the onlookers.
  • Gun Hill: Gun Hill is a popular tourist attraction located at a distance of 6 km from Jhari Pani Falls with historical importance. It is believed that a canon was fired in the afternoon for time keeping for the local residents from this place.
  • Laal Tibba: Lal Tibba is located at eight km distance from Jharia Pani Falls and it is the highest point in Mussoorie. This place has a camp of the Indian Military Academy.
  • Happy Valley: The first Tibetan temple was built here in India. This temple was constructed by Tibetan refugees in 1960.
  • Municipal Garden: This is a popular picnic spot with beautiful garden and an artificial lake where facility for boating and paddling is available.
  • Bhatta Falls: Located at Bhatta village on the Mussoorie-Dehradun Road provides excellent scope for water amusement and picnic.
  • Sir George Everest House: This is the place where the first Surveyor General of India Sir George Everest resided. Mt Everest the highest Peak has been named after him.  
  • Nag Devta Temple: This ancient temple dedicated to the Hindu God Lord Shiva is located on the Mussoorie-Dehradun road at Cart Mackenjee. This place provides excellent view of the Doon Valley and complete Mussoorie.
  • Jwalaji Temple: This temple which has an old idol of Goddess Durga is visited by pilgrims. This temple atop a hill provides excellent view of Yamuna Valley.
  • Cloud End: This resort built in 1838 is one of the earliest buildings of Mussoorie. It is surrounded by deodar forest.

The Jharia Pani Falls remain open on all days of the week between 6 am to 6 pm.

How to Reach

By Road

Mussoorie is the nearest major bus station to Jharia Pani Falls located at a distance of eight km and is also well connected with Dehradun. The Uttarakhand State Road Transport operates regular buses from most of the cities of Uttarakhand and Delhi. Apart from the Government Bus, private vehicles also run regularly between prominent cities. Tour operators conduct one day tour from neighboring Uttar Pradesh state also.

By Air

The nearest airport to Jharia Pani Falls is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun which is located at a distance of approximately 60 km from Dehradun. This airport has good connectivity with Delhi and other cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru. Tourists can hire a taxi from the airport to reach Jharia Pani Falls via Mussoorie.  

By Train

Mussoorie can be reached from Delhi by boarding trains connecting Dehra Dun. The Dehradun railway stations falls in the Northern Railway of the Indian Railways and is well connected with cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Haridwar, Saharanpur, Amritsar and Mumbai. The Shatabdi Express and Mussoorie Express are the best options. There are also certain overnight trains. Trains usually take five hours from Delhi. All the trains pass through Haridwar. The distance between Dehradun railway station and Jharia Pani Falls is approximately 16 km which can be travelled using private buses or hired taxis.
