About PSRTC
The road transport corporation of Pepsu was incorporated on 16th October, 1965 in Patiala as per the Road Transport Corporations Act, 1950, for providing economic facilities of transport catering to the Punjab people. This department began its operations with a meager amount of 25 lakhs along with 690 buses fleet covering over 10,000 kms route. The services could be availed on over 15 routes having over 345 employees. This department has been growing since then and now at present, it consists of 912 buses having 24 HVAC buses along with 2 AC buses covering a route of over 350,000 kms which operate on 600 routes. Currently, it has over 4500 employees. The PEPSU Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) functions through 10 depots at several places including Chandigarh, Sangrur, Ludhiana, Barnala, Faridkot, Kapurthala, Budhladha, Patiala, Bhatinda and special cells found under scheme of KM in Patiala.
Currently, PRTC is one of the largest companies of transport in Punjab which covers almost the entire state. It is headquartered at Patiala. It came into formation under the jurisdiction of PEPSU however when Punjab came into being and PEPSU got merged into it, this service of transport was termed as Road Transport Corporation. Few resources of Road Transport Corporation were given to the state of Himachal Pradesh as well as Haryana when there was formation of new states in 1966. The PRTC buses cover an entire region of North India.
PEPSU PRTC is the biggest Bus Company of the state of Punjab in India. This corporation is run by the state and is headquartered at Patiala. Initially, it came into being as the Road Transport Corporation of former state of PEPSU. However, when PEPSU got merged into Punjab, it had become Road Transport Corporation of entire Punjab state. Further, in 1966, when Himachal Pradesh and Haryana were formed out of Punjab, they created their Road Transport Companies. Currently, PRTC is functional in North India.

Corporation’s Head office is located at Patiala. The bus services operation by PRTC do not remain limited to Punjab only, but it provides bus services to states in neighborhood as well such as Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Jammu & Kashmir and Union Territories of Delhi and Chandigarh. The PRTC offers services not merely on intercity routes but it also connects the remote areas of close by villages, cities and towns. The service offered here also extends free/concessional facilities of travelling to several categories of people commuting according to the instructions given by the State Government time and again.
