Jagraon

This city is a sub division of Ludhiana district, a municipal council and a rural police in the beautiful state, Punjab. This city is three century old or even more than that and the city’s original name was Jagar aon that means ‘A Palace of Great Flooding’. Jagraon has been derived from a term that means development of the Sanskrit Grama. It is almost at the centre of Punjab as per the geographical structure and is 37 km away from Ludhiana, which is its district headquarter, 31 km from Nakodar, 55 km from Barnala and 29 km from Moga.

Attractions

One of the most holy places in Jagraon for the Jains is the Jain temple that offers an ambience of peace in the lush green environment. Thousands of pilgrims from the Jain community visit the temple to seek blessings of the deity. The Diksha Mahotsav held in the third week of March is one of the major celebrations at the Jain Temple.

Prince jewelers are said to be most famous and the oldest in the business where 4 generations have been selling exquisite jewelry for weddings and in general.

Purani Dana Mandi, Railway Road, Tehsil Road and Misserpura Bazaar are the other famous market places in the city.

Tandoori preparations and the flavorsome Dal Makhani prepared with a lot of white butter. The vegetarians can relish the preparations of paneer. Eat what their local specialties are and enjoy the essence of this city.

Climatic Conditions And Best Time to Visit

Autumn is the best season to visit that is between the months of October to November. The temperature at this time is not very cold and can be easily braved without any difficulty. It is difficult of course to roam around during winters as the fog and the chill are a deterrent.

How to Reach

The journey from Ferozepur and the rest of the country are well connected with Jagraon by road and rail. The junction of the national highway no 95 and 71 is the entrance to this old city.

Halwara (16 km), Adampur (70 km) and Sahnewal (45 km) are the closest defense and domestic airports to Jagraon city and Guru Ram Das International is the closest International airport.
