Arunachal Pradesh - The Land of Rising Sun

Itanagar is the capital city of the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, which is located in the north eastern most part of the country. The state is surrounded by geographically significant places on its borders like Assam and Nagaland (south), Bhutan (west), Burma (east) and People’s Republic of China (north).

The cluster of states located in North East India is known as Seven Sister States. Of these, Arunachal Pradesh is the biggest. Due to its beauty and picturesque appeal, the state has got many nicknames like “Paradise of the Botanists”, “Orchid State of India” and “Land of the dawn-lit mountains”.  The presence of abundant rivers in state, make it a hub for adventure activities like river rafting and hiking. The serene snow-clad peaks, thick and green forests and the quiet valleys make it a huge tourist destination.

A whopping 60% of the rural lands are covered by at least 550 species of almost extinct species of orchids and rare plants. The state also has an impressive collection of wildlife in the form of lions, tigers, elephants, leopards, musk, red pandas, white gibbons and the mithun, whose scientific name is ‘BOS FRONTALIS’.

The beauty and the heritage of the state of Arunachal Pradesh have been captured in great epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata and puranas like Kalika Puran. The great sage, Vyasa was believed to chosen this place for performing meditation here. Towards the north side of the Roing Hills, one can find remnants of structures made from bricks. This was believed to have housed the palace of Lord Krishna’s consort, Rukmini. The state of Arunachal Pradesh is brimming with a rich cultural heritage which attracts many tourists.

Tourists coming to the state have a lot of places to visit. Pilgrimage destinations like Parasuramkund and the Tawang Monastery that has been in existence for around 400 years, placid lakes of Ganga and Sela, snow-capped peaks of the mighty Himalayas, lush and green farmlands, archaeological places of importance like Itanagar and Malinithan, innumerable wildlife sanctuaries and exotic varies of flora and fauna are few of the  tourist hot-spots of this place. White water rafting, angling, hiking and trekking are some adventure activities that can be enjoyed here.
