The absence of water causes destruction to a massive extent. A place loses its nourishment and people lose their lives if they don’t get enough water. This is why rivers are always considered as the lifelines of a particular place or person. A place that doesn’t have rivers flowing  is considered doomed and unlucky. Uttar Pradesh, on the other hand, is truly blessed in all factors – especially those of rivers. There are many rivers and dams located in the state and they prove to be sources of irrigation for the farmers here. The dams here save enough water in them which can be used in times of drought. Some of the most famous and sacred rivers in the country like the Ganges and Yamuna pass through Uttar Pradesh, making it a very blessed and prosperous place in the country.

The best thing about these rivers is that they are great places for migratory birds as well. During peak seasons, one can find lots of domestic and international birds coming here for breeding purposes. These rivers thereby prove to be a delight for ornithologists. . When you come here during breeding seasons, ensure that you bring along your cameras as well! This is because, you will get a view of some of the most rare, colourful and exquisite species of birds that you will not get to see otherwise.

Famous Rivers of Uttar Pradesh

Though the state of Uttar Pradesh is blessed by many rivers, a few of them deserve special mention. They are Betwa River, Chambal River, Ganges and the Yamuna.

Betwa River

Betwa is a historic river that is believed to have been explained in the mega epic of Mahabharata as well. This river flows through Hamirpur in Uttar Pradesh and originates at the Vindhyas. This river is closely associated with the Ken River of Madhya Pradesh. Matalila Dam that is constructed at the point of confluence of these rivers is a place that you have to visit if you want to get scintillating views of the migratory birds. Close to 358km of the river is located in Uttar Pradesh and it is one of the major sources of irrigation in the Hamirpur area. Some of the other dams constructed along this river line are Rajghat Dam, Parichha Dam and Dhurwara Dam. The banks of the Betwa River contain beautiful Chhatris that add beauty to the river.

Chambal River

This is one of the most famous rivers of India and it covers states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.  It originates at the Manpura Janapao Hills in Indore and culminates into the Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh. This river line is famous for its amazing water species that are quite rare and unpolluted. Also, migratory birds like terns with black bellies, storks with black necks and skimmers visit this place during peak seasons.
