Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal And Green Garden

The Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal and Green Garden is in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. It is a memorial built by Mayawati, the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. It was inaugurated on October 14, 2011. This was the same day when, in 1956, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar took to Buddhism.

According to official records, the Memorial was constructed at a cost of 685 crores. It was opened to the public on October 2, 2013. This place is interwoven with controversies. It drew both bouquets and brickbats from people and media.

However, there is no doubt that the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal and Green Garden is a mesmerizing spot in Noida. Its structures, landscape, and grandness is enchanting. No doubt, it attracts swarms of tourists from all over India and even abroad.

Architecture

The Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal and Green Garden features a vast garden with green cover sprawled over 82.5 acre. It also features a mini-museum Rashtriya Dalit Smarak or National Dalit Memorial.

The Rashtriya Dalit Smarak is an open building sprawled over 33 acres. It consists of statues of Dalit leaders, inlcuding Dr. B R Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram, along with Mayawati and others. The memorial is built to pay tribute to the struggle done by these leaders towards social transformation.

The Memorial has a Column Plaza, Ambedkar Plaza, and Central Park Plaza.

The Column Plaza depicts Buddhist architecture. It features imposing pillars as high as 300 feet with replicas of Ashoka Chakra and four-headed elephants on the top.

The Ambedkar Plaza features 15 statues of Dalit icons. They are carved impeccably out of Dhaulpur and Mirzapur stones.

The Central Park Plaza has a big central dome structure, which features life-size statues of Dr. Ambedkar, Kanshi Ram, and Mayawati. The statues are of bronze. In the rest of the structure, visitors can find bronze plates of Dalit leaders. There is a depiction of their life and work during the Dalit Movement.

The monument is surrounded by majestic and mesmerizing elephants carved out of red sandstone. They soar 2418 feet high. The elephants had famously sparked a political controversy. According to official reports and estimates, the elephants cost Rs. 70 each. The statues cost Rs. 6 crore each.

About 50 per cent of the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal and Green Garden consists of green cover that features 1.5 lakh shrubs and 7,600 trees.

Official reports say that The Noida authority spent Rs. 1.35 crore on establishing facilities such as drinking water, sitting arrangement, public toilets, and finishing work. There is a control room at the backside of the park that monitors the whole park. It has 52 CCTV cameras.

The Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal and Green Garden has 26 private security personnel who work in two shifts. The UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam has also deployed 230 personnel. One of the best things about this place is that it is handicap-friendly.

Garden Timings

From March 1 to October 30, the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal and Green Garden is open from 11:00am to 6:00pm for general public. From November 1 to February 4, the Garden is open from 11:00am to 5:00pm for visitors. The Garden stays closed on Mondays.

Best Time to Visit

All year round. Months from October to March can be pleasant, as tourists can walk under the winter sun and have a nice time at The Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal and Green Garden.

How to Reach

Noida comes under National Capital Region (NCR). It is well connected to Delhi. It is also linked with major cities of Uttar Pradesh through rail, road, and air. Tourists coming from far off places can come at Delhi airport or Delhi railway station and then take a taxi or bus to reach Noida.
