History

Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb built the Alamgir Mosque in the medieval period. According to historical reports, there once stood a Hindu temple of Lord Krishna where the mosque stands today. It is believed that the temple was destroyed to construct the mosque. This was done during Mughal invasion in India.

Architecture

Alamgir Mosque features an impressive structure. The Emperor has used a mix of Persian and Hindu style of architecture. Tourists can find splendidly created domes, beautifully carved pillars, and amazingly built towers. The base of the mosque features a Hindu temple. Its awesome design is an example of the fabulous handiwork and art of ancient India.
