Ramgarh Taal

The Ramgarh Taal is a beautiful lake located near Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. The history about the formation of this lake is uncertain and it is believed that once, there was a village named Ramgarh that collapsed due to some disaster and a big hole was created and that got filled with water and created the Ramgarh Taal. The lake has been recently beautified and is a rich source of fish for the people living nearby. There are small colonies and villages surrounding the lake that was once green forests and dense jungles.

Location

The Ramgarh Taal is located on the southeast side of Gorakhpur and on the southern side of the metalled road that connects Kasia located in Deoria District.

Climate

Gorakhpur located near the Indo-Nepal border and experiences a humid sub tropical climate. It is situated at an elevation of 78 ft and its climate definitely is affected by its close proximity to Nepal. It experiences more or less a pleasant climate all through the year. The maximum temperature during the summer is never more than 40o C and the lowest temperature during the winter is not less than 4o C. the best time to visit this lake is during the months of October and until March. If you are visiting during the summers, the lake can give you some respite from the hot and sultry weather.

Geography

The Ramgarh Taal covers an area of 723 hectares and has a circumference of 18 km. The lake is rich in fishes and is a source of livelihood for many people here. The lake supports irrigation and is also used for recreational purposes.

Attraction

During the late 1980s, the government made an attempt to beautify the lake and it was during that time that a Buddha museum, a park, facilities for different water sports, a planetarium was built. However, the quality of the water has deteriorated over time owing to the disposal of domestic sewage water and solid wastes into it. The Neernikunj Water Park, an amusement park is nearby. There are also many shopping complexes near to this lake.

How to Reach

By Road

National Highway 28 and 29 intersect at Gorakhpur and there are frequent bus services available from all the major cities of the state like Lucknow, Allahabad, Jhansi, Bhopal and even cities like Mumbai and a few more.

By Railways

Gorakhpur is well connected by railway as well and the Indian Railways connect Gorakhpur to all major cities of the country. There are trains to cities like Kolkata, Moradabad, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Ujjain, Bhopal, Jhansi, Mumbai and all the others. Gorakhpur has a modern transport system and once you reach the railway station or the bus stop, you can hire cabs and auto-rickshaws to reach the Ramgarh Taal.

By Air

Kasia Airport is the nearest airport located 10 km away from the city. Though it is mostly for Indian Airforce traffic, it caters to few domestic flights as well from cities like Delhi, Mumbai and a few others. There are taxis and buses that would take you to the city from the airport.
