Tuticorin Beach

The Tuticorin beach is known to have very low tides. It is located in Tuticorin which is also known as Thoothukudi. Tuticorin port is the major port that exports and imports some of the major things across the world. Tuticorin has gained a lot of global importance and is a well known port. Tuticorin operates throughout the year and is located in the international sea passage. Direct transport to the United States of America is done weekly, hence, affects the development and growth of local people and other cities. Tuticorin also serves the ports of Madurai, Coimbatore and Tirunelveli. Once Tuticorin was the home of ship building industries is now the most prominent landmarks of the state.

History

The sea getaway of the state was once under the Portuguese during the 16th century, but later was occupied by the Dutch in the 17th century. In 18th century, the British transformed the town as a port town, hence it got a lot of attention as it emerged in the trade industry. Along with the picturesque, sunny and sandy beaches in the place, it gained a lot of historical and religious significance in the history. The port had its first Jetty in 1864. The port is now used to export some of the most important things across the globe like salt, dry fish, palmyrah fibers, senna leaves, cotton yarn, country drugs and palmyrah stalks.

Geography

The town is located in the Gulf of Mannar and is normally humid as being in the coastal region. Tuticorin beach has very calm breeze having very low waves with no high tides. Therefore, Tuticorin beach gives an image of the sea with no waves. The climate here is very hot in the summer season, pleasant in the winter and frequent showers in the rainy season.

Tourism

Tuticorin being one of the most important business ports of the world has encouraged tourism in this area. Pearl fishing, buying salt and other related businesses are the prime sources of income here. Other cities and towns are well connected with this place. This flow of people from the globe has made the place equipped with accommodation facilities and dining facilities for the tourists.

Port

The port is located in the Gulf of Mannar and can be seen by all. The port has the facility to serve the direct cargo or the container vessel to almost all major ports of the world like Singapore, Hong Kong, Rotterdam, Salalah, Colombo, Mumbai, Mundra and Karachi.

Tircuchendur Temple

The temple has a very impressive architecture and contains the six sacred shrines of the Lord Murugan. Numerous pilgrims visit the place every year.

Kalakadu Sanctuary

This is home to some of the rare flora and fauna and is a paradise for the avid bird watchers and nature lovers. One can have a glimpse of some rare birds and wild animals here.
