Department of Tourism

Rajasthan is one of the favorite destinations of both the national tourists as well as the international visitors. It is known for its art, grand palaces, national parks and the rich culture that attracts thousands of tourists towards it.  The Rajasthan Tourism has developed over the years and offers job opportunities to the local residents as well.

The state tourism is the biggest source of income and providing employment opportunities. The aim of the department is to promote harmony and unity among the people.  As the tourism is increasing day by day, therefore the government has planned special tourism policies like "People's Industry" for promoting the Rajasthan tourism in different ways and attracting the visitors.  Commercialization is definitely an important part of tourism but the main focus is to expose the culture and traditions of Rajasthan. That is why the government is taking all possible steps to promote tourism for maximum benefits.  Both the public as well as the private sector has also joined hands together for better promotion of Rajasthan tourism.

The Tourism Department is working together with the state and central government to launch new policies or programs that will boost the tourism. Special campaigns and activities are organized to make people familiar with the attractions and create a sense of awareness among them.

Apart from the state and central government; Deputy Director (Planning and Stat.), 2 Dy. Director, Accounts Officer, two Additional Directors, Assistant Directors, three Jt. Directors, Accounts Officer, Financial Adviser, Tourist Officers and Asstt. Accounts Officer are providing the necessary assistance. Field officers of four regions; Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai are working at departmental level.  The Dy. Directors are working at regional offices to ensure better facilities for the tourists. Tourist Reception Centers as well as Tourist Information Bureaus are being set up in every city and district so that people can gather any kind of information and enjoy their experiences.

The three most important entities who are rendering their help are Rajasthan Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (RITTMAN), Rajasthan Tourism Dev. Corporation Ltd. Along with Rajasthan State Hotel Corporation Ltd.

Tourism Policy

The new policy for the tourism was introduced on 27-9-2001 with a motive to come up with practical solutions that would really make a difference.  More emphasis is to develop the connectivity up to rural areas and promote them in a better way.  This will be helpful in boosting the market and exposing the talent of the artists, craftsmen and other people who create innovative stuff.  The motive is to boost the tourism and also promote the rich culture which still exists even today.  Scientific approaches are also being used to accelerate the growth of the tourism thus making a special place in the hearts the visitors.

It was in 1898 that the government decided to convert the tourism department into an industry which was followed through the notification on 7-11-2002. This was done with an aim to create diverse options of income and even provide employment which would strengthen the economy.

Fairs – Festivals and Cultural Programmes

Rajasthan is known for its colorful fairs and festivals which are enjoyed all throughout the year. A lot of efforts are being put by the organizations to grab the attention of several tourists and increase the number of people coming to this state.  By organizing such festivals, it is a way to take one step ahead in promoting the culture which is highly appreciated by the people.

Tourism Publicity – Promotion and Marketing

The tourism department is making its way to guide the tourists about the various attractions and sightseeing options through booklets, brochures, folders and lots of useful stuff.  Even the literate is being sold to other countries as well as within the state to attract the visitors and provide them with complete information they are looking for. The tourists can easily collect such helpful stuff from the Tourist Reception Centers which are located in every city and can assist you in planning your trip.

Tourism Department Marketing Procedures

The main motive is to promote tourism and that is why a variety of marketing approaches have been followed to enhance the Rajasthan tourism.

The Rajasthan tourism department is actively associated with guiding the tourists about the different services that will be offered them and how it can make a difference to their trip. They are actively participating in conferences and seminars and speaking about the special features of Rajasthan that may attract the people. Road shows have been organized in the southern region for better promotion and it has been successful too. The road show in Coimbatore and Chennai were organized through Rajasthan Sangh and thousands of people turned to be a part of it. Even other countries like Singapore, Malaysia, London etc are on the target with a special road show done in the USA.

Event Print Media has become an important way to promote the tourism and look forward to better results which is the ultimate aim.

The department is participating in fairs, seminars and exhibitions for higher exposure.

The Tourist Police Service was started in 2000 with a motive to provide a safer experience of traveling to Rajasthan and make sure that their trip is fun filled and a memorable one.  The services have been extended to other cities as well like Pushkar, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Mount Abu.

Land Bank

In order to assist the tourists will all types of facilities, the government of Rajasthan has come up with a new scheme called as Land Bank. Through this scheme, the government lands which were meant to construct the tourism units will now be given to the Land Bank so that it can be further employed for RTDC or DoT. With the help of this option, it has become easy for the private companies and other organizations to invest in the tourism industry and help in taking it to a new level.  First the bidders will approach the government and they will be shortlisted on the basis of their financial standing as well as capability to manage the work. The selected bidders will now be called for the last step and that is to give them the property after the committee has their taken their decision.

General Administrative Department currently has given away 29 Nazool properties which form the part of the 10 districts. RTDC is carrying out this activity is a better way and disposing off the properties.

Even the Panchayati Raj Department has given away 7 highway facility centers for the Land Bank scheme and it has been utilized by RTDC for disposing it.

All the disposal activities are taking place as per the Rajasthan Tourism Disposal of Land Properties Rules, 1997 thus ensuring the right disposal methods and making the best use of the opportunities.

Accommodation Facilities

The tourists can enjoy the finest accommodation facilities from the lowest priced to the higher priced accommodation options to suit your budget. You can come across a variety of hotels, Rajasthan State Hotel Corporation, Rajasthan Tourism Dev, Inns, Rest Houses etc. Paying Guest facilities are also available in case you have to stay here for a longer time.

The excellent promotion has brought about a huge difference in the field of tourism. Heritage Hotels have become very popular and offers the finest amenities that can make your stay comfortable. Rajasthan is known for some of the top Heritage Hotels which are a glimpse of the true Indian culture and also offer the best hospitality to the people.

There are many states which are now enjoying the Paying Guest facility including Bikaner, Mount Abu, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bundi, Alwar and many more. The main idea is to make people familiar with the Indian lifestyle especially the international tourists who have little knowledge about the Indian culture. There are about 360 Guest Houses which have been owned by the Rajasthan government and formed the main accommodation option for the foreign tourists.
