Music and dance is an essential part of the tribes of beautiful state of Rajasthan. These art forms can be seen in the various fairs festivals of the region. The most famous art form of the Bhil tribe of Rajasthan is the ‘Gowari dance’. It is a kind of dance drama and performers of Gowari travel through the villages of the region for a month. During this period, nine functionaries follow a strict regime. The entire troupe dances around a central spot. This spot is dedicated to a deity. Apart from this, a ‘mandal’ and a ‘thali’ are also part of the performance. Rai Buriya Shiva, along with his two ‘Rais’, is the main character of the Gowari dance drama. ‘Katkuria’ is the comic handyman. These performances are truly intriguing. It is still performed in the traditional way which has been passed down from generations. The vibrant costumes and the enthusiastic performers bring this land of deserts to life.
