Keoladeo Ghana National Park

The Keoladeo Ghana National Park thus emerges to be a paradise on earth for those who love birds. This national park was formerly known as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. The Keoladeo Ghana National Park is situated between two of the most famous cities of India, the city of Tajmahal, Agra and the Pink City of India, Jaipur.
There is a wide variety of bird form that can be seen in this sanctuary. While some of the birds are permanent residents of this place, some are migratory and only visit the place during some particular seasons.
The birds or the avifauna life form that can be found in this sanctuary is quite unique. There are a number of rare and endangered birds who flies into this place all round the year. And, that’s proves to be an amazing view for the spectators.
This place has always proven to be a suitable vacation spot for the birds who flies thousands of miles just to stay in this place for a few days. Looking back a little in the history it can be seen that the foundation of the park was first laid in the year 1760. However, it got its status as a prestigious national park much later and in the year 1982. And, just after a period of three years it was declared to be included in the list of the world heritage site seeing its wide range of avifauna variations.
This bird sanctuary is a wonder and a paradise for the bird lovers. One can find birds singing in the trees or taking a bath in the water reserves. The varieties of birds will surly make one awestruck and present a view of a lifetime. There is almost a variety of 375 species that can be found in this sanctuary among which around 230 birds are the permanent resident of this sanctuary. The rest of the birds fly in from various corners of the world.
The Keoladeo Ghana National Park is covered all around in lush green thick forests which emerge to be a perfect habitat option for various kinds of birds. The bird lovers can enjoy the spectacular view by taking an early morning boat ride or going for a quite tour in the jungle.
Location
The Keoladeo Ghana National Park is located in Bharatpur which is in Rajhasthan, India. It is positioned on the south-west part of the national highway no 11 which connects the cities of New Delhi and Agra. It is a well connected place and thus can be accessed by various routes. One can reach this national park by the means of airways, railways and roadways with ease.
Fauna
It is needless to say that this park is all about the avifauna. You can turn your head from one side to another and you will come across different varieties of beautiful and rare birds all around you. The birds which can be pointed out as the crème de la crème of the park are Solitary Lapwing, Indian Spotted Eagles, Asian Openbill Strocks, Siberiean Greater Painted Snipe, Dusky Eagle owls, Brook’s Leaf Warblers, Grey Nightjars, etc. This species of birds are not only a great view but they are also quite rare. Some of them are also listed among the endangered species.
However, this is not all that the Keoladeo Ghana National Park has to offer. One can also expect to see about 20 species and varieties of ducks, Raptors and along with that an innumerable number of waders. And, also not to forget the migratory waterfowl which are truly a treat to the eyes. This place truly emerges to be a paradise for a birder.
Although this place is mainly famous for its wide variety of birds but one can also expect to find fauna life forms like the Wild Boars, the otters, the fishing cats, the Nilgai, the Sambar and the Jungle cats.
Flora
The Keoladeo Ghana National Park as its name ‘Ghana’ suggests is one of the thickest vegetation that can be found in India. The forest area also has a large area covered with dry grasslands. Along with that the artificially managed marshes can also be found here.
Attractions
The park is amazing in itself and one will not want to see anything else other than the hundreds of birds that reside in this park. Also though for those looking for more there are attractions like the Lohagarh Fort, Bharatpur Palace and Bharatpur Government museum.
Climate And Best Time to Visit
The summer month which starts from April and lasts till June are quite hot. In the month of monsoon one can expect a few spills of showers which can prove to be not so good for watching the birds. The winter is really chilly and the temperature can drop down up to 10 degrees. The best season to visit is from August to November when one can view the breeding of the resident birds of the park. Also, one can visit during November- march to have a look at the world of the migratory birds.

By Air
The nearest airport is in Agra and Agra is well connected by flights from the New Delhi Airport. And, it is needless to say that the New Delhi airport is well connected from all over the world.
By Road
The roadways of this place are well connected with different major cities of India. So, you can access this place with absolute ease.
By Train
The nearest rail station is Bharatpur which is about 6 kms away from the Park. And, the rail station of Bharatpur is again very well connected with the nearest major cities like Delhi and Agra.
Visitor Information
The park remains open almost all time of the year. It remains open from 6:00 am in the morning to 6:00 pm in the evening. The Indian citizen visiting the park has to pay an entry fee of INR 25 whereas the entry fee for the foreign nationalities is INR 200.
