About City Palace

This Palace just resembles any famous fairytale and is one of the famous heritages building in the Pink city. This white palace is beautifully placed in the heart of the city and is affine example of class Rajput culture and art. It faces the Lake Pichola and was built by Maharaja Udai Singh. He was from the Sisodia clan from 1559 AD.

History

Maharaja Sawai had shifted to Jaipur from Ajmer due to water crunch and the increasing population in the year 1727. He trusted Vidyadhar Bhattacharya with the richness of the cultural heritage. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II is known to have specially made work for making the outer wall of the Palace. He then designed the best palace as per the Vaastushastra texts.

Architecture

The Rajput, European, and Mughal styles are very evident in the making if this palace even after it being made as per the Vaastushastra texts. Virendra Pol, Jaleb Chowk, Udai Pol and Tripolia Gate are some of the famous gates and are the different entrances to the City Palace. The grid styles many structures like Govind Ji Temple, Diwan-I-Khas, Mubarak Mahak and Chandra Mahal are some of the structures housed in the palace and are designed as per the ‘grid-style’. The mughal style is used to design the gates and walls of the Palace with the beautiful mirrors, artifacts and murals adorning the Palace.

Major Structures

It is located in the central northeast part of the pink city.

Entrance gates

There are three entrance gates to this palace and the Tripolia gate are reserved for the royal families to enter whereas the common people can enter that palace from Atish Pol, Virendra Pol and the Udai Pol gates.

Mubarak Mahal

It has islam, European and Rajput artifacts and styles used while building the Mubarak Mahal. It was made in the late 19th century by Maharaja Madho Singh II. It has some of the very fine royal costumes like silk saris, sanganeri block prints, beautiful embroidered shawls and many more.

Chandra Mahal

This building is considered to be the most commanding in the complex and is situated on the west end if the palace. The seven storeys have different names and have on display some of the most beautiful art pieces of paintings, flower decorations and the magnificent mirror work on the walls, adding to the beauty.

Pitam Niwas Chowk

This is one of the courtyards that lead to the Chandra Mahal. The four gates have themes of the divine Hindu gods.

Diwan-I-Khas

This is the educational hall and has marble flooring. This was a private hall for the royal maharajas. The crystal chandeliers add to the beauty of this section.

Diwan-I-Kash

The rich red and gold painted ceiling catches hold of every ones sight. It is now an art gallery.

Jal Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Vidhyadhar;s garden are some of the major attractions in the Jaipur city which are close to this historical monument.

How to Reach

The national highway number 8 connects to Delhi and Mumbai and the highway 11 that connects Bikaner and Agra pass via Jaipur.

Railway connectivity is very well as Jaipur is on the broad gauge and direct trains are available to all the major cities in India and Rajasthan. The most famous and the luxurious train, the Palace on Wheels also stops in Jaipur.

The international airport in Sanganer is easy to connect and provided flights for Udaipur, Jodhpur, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Chennai, Jabalpur, Lucknow and international flights to Dubai, Sharjah, Muscat are available for those wishing to come from states.

Visitor Information

This beautiful palace is built right in the hustle bustle of the city is the slight northeast of the centre of Jairpur City. It is connected well to the other parts of India.
