Jantar Mantar Jaipur

Jantar Mantar is famous for having numerous archaeological monuments and instruments. It was built by the emperor of Mughal dynasty Sawai Jai Singh. Between 1727 and 1734, Jai Singh II of Amber made Ujjain and Mathura as the new capital of Jaipur. It was designed after the construction of the Mughal capital of Delhi. The word Jantar Mantar is derived from ‘Jantar’ which means device and ‘Mantar’ means calculation or formula thus, Jantar Mantar literally means formulating or calculative instrument. This tower is also has a lot of religious significance as the ancient astrologers were also known as masters of Jyotisa. The tower consists of fourteen mathematical instruments which measures time, tracks the location of stars, refusing the declines of the planets, finding the celestial distances, forecasting eclipses and associated chronicles.

Present Scenario

Today, Jantar Mantar is counted among the famous tourist destinations and is considered as the biggest and largest tourist destinations in the world heritage list. In 2006, a film named ‘the fall’ was shot in Jantar Mantar using it as a maze. It is a radiant symbol of Jaipur’s dignified ancestry and signifies the aristocratic testimony of the ancient period. Even today, it grabs the attention of the tourists and the fanatics. It is an eye-catching and alluring structure of Jaipur. In addition, it also has numerous eye-catching and beautiful places to be visited which include the city palace, Galta monkey temple and Jaigarh fort. It has always attracted numerous media and is a huge source of information which makes it a place to be explored. It has been shot by numerous media organizations for collective panoramic "VR" photographs, historical purposes, 3D modelling purposes for articles, historical texts and drawings and time lapse sequences.

The biggest tool known as Samrat Yantra is said to be the largest one which 90feet high almost 27cm. Its shadow has been devised carefully which tells the time of the day. Its front portion is angled towards the latitude of Jaipur and is at the angle of 27degree. The Hindu chhatri or the small dome is fixed on the top which is used for the disclosure of the eclipse and the arriving monsoon. These instruments are made of marbles and the local stones and carries gigantic scales on the inner marble linings. In 1948, it was announced as the national monument.
