Venerable Period

Dargah Shariff situated in Ajmer, Rajasthan, is the holy alter of Sufi Saint Moinuddin Chishti which also consist his maqbara (dargaah or grave). Moinuddin Chishti who was also known as Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaz was born in 114 A.D. in Sanjar, Iran. His parent’s ancestry were associated with Hazrat Imam Hussain thus he was the direct offspring of prognosticator Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W). Although Islam played a major role in the Indian Subcontinent during the time of Hijra but the task of inspiring the people about its mission and vision was done by Hazrat Moinuddin Chisti. He was called by numerous names which also included Khawaja Saheb and Sultan-UL- Hind. He worked with a magnificent and attractive character with a great noble power with dedication and love for the mankind.

Present Condition

For the past centuries, the beautiful monument of Ajmer shariff and his dargaah has been visited by numerous tourists for the religious purposes which have been devoted to Huzoor Gharib Nawaz and his remains. The maqbara is located at the foothills of northern terminus. "Garib Nawaz chatty" festival is celebrated every month based on the viewing of the moon. The altar of Khawaja Garib Nawaz is visited by the tourists and the khuddams of Khawaja Garib Nawaz. While visiting the alter, they also bring flowers and Gilaf Shariff (42meters of cloth) which is embroidered and is used for covering the holy altar or the other offerings as per their capability to be offered at the altar.

Major Attractions

Its major attraction is the mausoleum which contains the coffin of the saint which is the most holy place of the shrine. The beautiful shrine includes numerous eye-catching tombs, courtyards, daalans and buildings which signify the admirable exhibit of the Mughal archaeology built during the Mughal period. It is believed that the special prayers at the alter of Khawaja Gharib Nawaz at Ajmer Shariff protects from numerous problems and the taweez from Ajmer shariff saves from the black magic spells, evil Jinn curse, spiritual cure, Istikara Dua-prayer, Rohani ilaj, khatam-e-Khwaja, Ayaat-e-Karima and Wazifa for all problems.

How to Reach

Ajmer Shariff can be easily reached by flight, road and rail services. Although the closest Aerodrome is at Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan (138kms), but the easiest way to reach is through the Indian Railway.

By Air

The closest Aerodrome is at Jaipur (138kms).

By Rail

Ajmer is well connected with the main cities of India. The trains can be availed from Jodhpur, Delhi, Abu road, Udaipur, Jaipur and Ahmadabad.

By Road

Daily bus services are available for Dargah Shariff from the major cities. Rajasthan and Gujarat provide the best facility of buses for Ajmer Shariff.

Summers: 4:30AM to 10:00PM.

Winters: 5:30AM to 9:00PM.
