Vikram Pandit

Born on 14th January 1957, Vikram Pandit is an American banker born in India. He held the position of Chief Executive of Citigroup in 2007 and resigned in 2012.

Vikram Shankar Pandit has a B.S. as well as M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering along with an MBA degree, which he had got from Columbia University. He also has a PhD from Columbia Business School in finance. He currently stays in New York with his wife and two children.


Narayan Bhikaji Parulekar

Also known as Nanasaheb, Narayan Bhikaji Parulekar, was the founder and editor or Sakal, a Marathi newspaper. He was born on 20th September 1898 and expired on 8th January 1973. He launched the newspaper in 1932 and was the chairperson of Press Trust.

Sakal is now the flagship of Sakal Media Group, which is based in Pune. Newspapers like Gomantak and Sakal Times are also there which are sold majorly in Pune with 300000 copies and one million across Maharashtra. He is said to be the father of Indian Journalism.

Madhuri Dixit

Born on 15th May 1976, Madhuri Dixit is an actress who appears in the Hindi films. She is said to be the best actress in Bollywood and made her debut with Abodh in 1984. She received most of the recognition with Tezaab, which was released in the year 1988. She has been acknowledged by many people for her performance, beauty and dancing making her one of the leading actress in the industry.

She has won six Filmfare awards in her career in which four of them were for best actress. She got one award for the best supporting actress and another one for completing twenty five years in the Indian Cinema. She has the maximum number of nominations for the best actress in Filmfare and got the Padma Shri in 2008 along with the fourth highest civilian award which was given to her by the Government of India.

Lata Mangeshkar

Lata Mangeshkar is an Indian Singer who was born on 28th September 1929. She is a music composer too and the most respected playback singer of India. She started her career in 1942 and has spent seven decades of her life singing for the movies along with 36 regional and foreign languages. She usually sings in Hindi and Marathi and is the elder sister of Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar, Hridaynath Mangeshkar, and Meena Mangeshkar. Lata Mangeshkar was awarded with Bharat Ratna which is the highest civilian award given to someone.

Bal Keshav Thackeray

Also known as Balasaheb Thackeray, Bal Keshav Thackeray was an Indian politician who was born on 23rd January 1926. He died on 17th November 2012 and founded Shiv Sena, which is an ethnocentric party, which is active in the western part of Maharashtra. He was called Hindu Hriday Samraat, which means Emperor of the Hindu Hearts, by his followers. He started his career as a cartoonist in ‘The Free Press Journal’, a Mumbai based English Language Daily. He left it in 1960 and formed his political party named Marmik. When he died, he was given a state funeral and a huge number of mourners were present.

Sushilkumar Shinde

Sushilkumar Shinde was born in Solapur which is located in Maharashtra on 4th September 1941. He is an Indian politician and is the minister of home affairs in the government of Manmohan Singh. After Buta Singh, he is the second Dalit Home Minister and is the leader of the Lok Sabha. He was the first Dalit minister to hold that job after replacing Pranab Mukherjee.

He started his career as a bailiff in Sonpur and served from 1957 to 1965. He later joined the state police of Maharashtra as a constable and was the sub-inspector at the same time. He served C.I.D. for six years in Maharashtra as well.

Anna Hazare

Popularly known as Anna Hazare, Kisan Baburao is an Indian social activist who was born on 15th June 1937. He led several movements to promote the rural development, investigated and punished the officials who encourage corruption and increase the transparency in government as well. He has done several hunger strikes to implement his cause. He uses the tactics of Mahatma Gandhi and is his follower. He contributed to develop Ralegan Siddhi, which is a village in Parner taluka in Ahemadnagar in the state of Maharashtra. He also received the Padma Bhushan award which his third highest civilian award given by the Government of India. He got the award to establish the village and creating a model for others.

Dhanraj Pillay

Born on 16th July 1968 in Pune, Dhanraj Pillay is a hockey player is the former Indian hockey team captain. He is the manager of the Indian hockey team currently and is the member of Adhoc committee of hockey federation of India.

Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar, born on 24th April 1973, is an Indian Cricketer who is widely known as one of the best batsman in the one day international. He stands second in the list of all time greatest cricketers in test cricket. He was titled the second best test batsman of all times in 2002 by the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack. He was also considered the second best batsman in ODI. He was the part of the team when India won Cricket World Cup in 2011. He was awarded the player of the tournament in 2003 in the Cricket World Cup, which took place in South Africa.

He also got the Padma Vibhushan award, which is the second highest civilian award. The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award was also given to him, which is the highest sporting honor in India. He got the doctorate from the Mysore University and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences as well.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

Shivaji Bhosale was born on 3rd April 1680 and was the founder of Maratha Empire until 1818. His empire covered most of the Indian Subcontinent. He led the resistance against Adilshahi sultanate and the Mughal Empire as well. Under the rule of Shivaji Bhosale, an independent Maratha kingdom was established. He was crowned as Chatrapati, which means paramount sovereign by the people of Marathas in 1674.

Anil Kakodkar

Anil Kakodkar is a mechanical engineer and a nuclear scientist of India who was the chairperson of the Atomic Energy Commission of India and was the Secretary to the Government of India. Kakodkar was also the Director of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Trombay from 1996 to 2000. On 26th January 2009, he got the Padma Vibhushan award which is the second highest civilian honor given in India.

He played a major role in the nuclear tests, which were conducted in India. He used thorium as fuel for the nuclear energy.
