There are thousands of blood banks in the state of Maharashtra according to recent statistics. These are operated by private-sector and the government-sector authorities. These blood banks store all kinds of blood groups, including the rarest of the groups in order to help the citizens during emergency situations. The blood stored in these banks are a result of various state-level blood camps conducted by government agencies, non-profit organisations and other institutions at schools, corporates, public places, colleges etc. These blood banks are strategically located in close vicinity to the major hospitals in big cities. Some of these banks are also located in rural areas too.
