Tadoba National Park
Tadoba National Park came in existence in 1955 worldwide. This Park is the oldest and largest park in Maharashtra. It is the most popular park but it a still and calm demeanor. This park contains bamboo trees and teak. This park has beautiful lakes, marshland, and a rocky precipice. This park has a lot of wildlife and earlier was the favorite spot of hunters.
About Tadoba National Park
In 1935, Tadoba National Park was recognized as a reserve area and become a full fledged park in 1955. The central point of this park is a lake which is in the middle of varied deciduous forest and undulating hills. One can sometimes spot leopards and tigers in this region.
Tadoba National Park and Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary are sometimes together called Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve. This park obtains its name from "Taru" the local divinity, whereas Andhari River that rambles all the way through the forest gives its name to the sanctuary. Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary was formed in 1986.
Location
The total area of this park is 623 sq. km. It consists of two forests i.e. Tadoba and Andhari. The boundary of this park is covered by thick hills. Towards the south there is a lake, which divides the park into two equal parts i.e. the forest and the farmland. This park has protected the forest life and wildlife.
Flora
The vegetation on this land is of typical hot dry deciduous type and its dominant species is Teak. Some of the main tree kinds found in this secluded area are Teak, Ain, Bhera, Bor, Shivan, Bel, Chichwa, Arjun, Behada, Bija, Dhawada, Kusum, Salai, Semal, Shisham Mahua, Mowai, Phetra, Rohan, Sisoo, Surya, Sirus, Tendu.
Fauna
The major attraction of this park is Tiger, the grand Sambar, Chital, indefinable Barking Deer, shy Sloth Bear, royal Gaur, Nilgai, whistling Wild Dogs, ubiquitous Wild Boar, and the Leopard.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to see tigers is during the hotter months, from March to May.
- Although the summer temperature is on its extreme in May month but it is counted as the best time to visit here.
- Monsoon season starts here from June and lasts till September. Post rainy season the months of October and November also get warm.
- The winters start here from December and till February. However, the temperature stays moderate.
Opening hours for the national park are from 6 am to 10 a.m. It remains closed from 10 am to 3 pm. It once again opens from 3pm to 6pm.
How to Reach
By Air
The airport nearest to this place is Nagpur which is connected to all major cities of India, including Delhi and Mumbai. From Nagpur, one can get a taxi to reach Tadoba National Park.
By Train
The nearest railway station is Nagpur which is connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta and other major cities of the region. From there, 24 hours buses and taxies are available.
By Road
A national highway connects this park to Nagpur and Jabalpur and further Nagpur is connected well to the major cities by road.
