Mahur Temple
Mahur is a town located in Nanded district in Maharashtra. It is famous for the Renuka Devi Temple, which also finds mention in ancient mythologies. Renuka Devi is considered to be the mother of Lord Parashuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple is one of the Shakti Peeths, others being at the Tuljapur temple, the Kolhapur Mahalakshmi temple, the Saptashrungi temple and the temples at the Ambe Jogai and Aundh. Every year during Vijaydashmi, a mega fair is held at the temple when lakhs of devotees visit the temple to take part in the pooja celebrations and to have the Mahaprasad, a grand feast for the visitors to the temple is organised.
Mahur is also mentioned in the epic Devi Bhagavatham written by Sage Ved Vyasa. Devi Bhagavatham is about the incarnation of the goddess and it is in the form of words recited by the goddess herself where she describes how she has to be worshipped and also mentions the rituals and practices to be followed. The Mahur Renuka Devi Temple finds mention in one of the parts of the epic, referred to as Devi Gita.
The other temples in Mahur are the Anusaya temple, Kalika temple and Dattatreya temple.
