Gajanan Maharaj Temples

Gajanan Maharaj is one of the most revered and respected of all Hindu saints. The initial days of the Maharaj are shrouded in mystery and there is no authentic and verifiable information about his birth place or childhood. It is believed that he made his appearance in Shegaon, a place in the Buldhana District of Maharashtra in 1878. The saint is credited with performing various miracles which were witnessed by the villagers of Shegaon and they soon recognized that he is no ordinary mortal. Today, even after more than 100 years of taking Samadhi (1910), the number of followers of Gajanan Maharaj is growing all over India and abroad as well. His devotees and followers have constructed temples in his name in many places.

Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj Temple in Shegaon

This temple was built on the instructions of Gajanan Maharaj in 1909. A trust was created in 1909 to manage the affairs and activities of the temple. It comprised of the most trusted devotees of the Maharaj. All activities of the sansthan are focused on achieving their motto ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhenah’ meaning ‘May all be Happy’. The trust is deeply involved in managing 42 diverse projects in the area of medicine, social welfare, education and spiritual development. The Anand Sagar project is one of the biggest projects handled by the Sansthan. It has helped alleviate the problem of water scarcity faced by the villagers of this place.

Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj in Mumbai

There is a temple of Shri Gajanan Maharaj in Kanhor in Badlapur, Mumbai. The land for the temple was gifted by a devotee in 1981 and soon the construction was completed. There is an audumber tree just near to the temple complex which is worshipped by devotees visiting the temple. It is believed that the audumber tree appeared miraculously just after the work on the temple was started. The temple has a white marble stone idol and padukas of the Maharaj.

Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj in Nagpur

The Sant Gajanan Maharaj Mandir in Nagpur was established by the trust called Yogiraj Gajanan Sewa Pratishthan in 1980 with the aim of spreading the message of Sant Gajanan Maharaj among the youth of today. Located near Ambarari Overflow, Subash Nagar Square, the trust helps the poor and needy in many ways and also actively participates in social programs and causes. They have constructed a hostel for children of poor farmers in the region and have also invested in setting up many educational institutions so that children don’t have to go to cities in search of quality education.

Gajanan Maharaj Mandir Indore

The devotees of Gajanan Maharaj have built a huge temple in honor of the Sant at Pawal Nagar which is just 15 minutes away from the main market place in Indore. The temple was established in 1988 by the Sewashram trust on the auspicious occasion of Vasant Panchami. The main goal of the Sewashram is to create awareness of the teachings of the Sant and help lead a life that reflects good moral values. The trust helps economically backward students in achieving quality education and also cares for the elderly who are taken care of in an ashram constructed specifically for them.

Gajanan Maharaj Mandir Aurangabad

This temple was constructed in 1991 and is managed by a trust that looks after the needs of the economically and socially deprived sections of the society in this region.
