Nagaon Beach

Nagaon Beach has become a favorite among weekend visitors, especially from Mumbai and Pune. It has become popular because of the clean waters and beautiful colleges around. The ground of the beach is leveled because of which it offers great relaxation.

There are many options for water sports in the region along with some great places to try seafood. Food made by the villagers here is considered particularly tasty.
Nagaon Beach lies 7 km away from Alibaug, which is known for its coconuts and betel nuts. Placed beautifully on the shores of the Arabian Sea, this beach delights all visitors.

History

Nagaon Beach lies in Alibaug, which makes it an interesting town with a fascinating history. Alibaug was developed in the 17th century by Chhatrapati Shivaji’s chief of navy Kanhoji Angre. At the time, most of this region was covered by water and there were coconut trees by the shore. Gradually, the town was developed and it became a center of great historical significance. The region of Alibaug, formerly known as Colaba, was owned by a rich Muslin who went by the name Ali. That’s why, the place came to be known as Alibaug. Ever since, Alibaug has had a rich history. It turned into not only a sun city, later, Shivaji constructed the Kaluba Fort here. In fact, in 1852 Alibaug was also identified as a district headquarters.

Interestingly, the famous Bollywood song ‘Sagar Kinare…’ from the movie Sagar was also shot here.

There are many attractions in and around Nagaon Beach:

  • Akshi Beach
  • Kanakeshwar Temple

Nagaon Beach is also the central place if you want to get to neighboring beaches such as Murud Beach, Kashid Beach or Akshi Beach. The main city of Alibaug is also a must see when you are visiting Nagain. Kihim and Mandva are also close to Nagaon and some must visit beaches.

Kulaba Fort

This fort is 25 ft high and 350 ft wide. It was built by Maratha king Shivaji in 1680.

Special Attractions

Adventurous visitors have started frequenting Nagaon Beach because of the many options of water sports there. One can engage in activities like swimming and boating here. This is a flat beach, which makes it a safe beach for some water sports.

One must visit the Kanhoji Angre Samadhi here, which is dedicated to the Maratha admiral by that name. This Samadhi has eight faces on it that and there are some beautifully sculpted pillars.

Alibaug Beach is a must visit here along with places like Colaba Fort and Ali Shah Bawa’s Mazhar. Nagaon Beach is also the place to find some interesting suru trees to relax in its breeze.

How to Reach

By Ferry

One can take an exciting ferry ride from Mumbai to Nagaon. You can take one from the Gateway of India and get to Alibaug bus depot. Nagaon is 8 km from the bus depot. There are air conditioned and non-air conditioned boats and ferries available for visitors who want to get to Alibaug bus depot.

By Road

Alibaug town is about 100 km from Mumbai by road. It takes about 2 hours. One can take a private cab or buses to get to Nagaon.

By Air

Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is closest to Nagaon. It is 120 km away. The airport is well-connected to most other parts of India as well as to international destinations like Singapore, US, Hong Kong and Dubai. Pre paid taxis are easily available from the airport to Palghar.

There are some beautiful beach resorts in and around Nagaon. You can find an interesting place to stay here but make sure to book in advance.
