Samudra Beach

Resting to the north of the beach, the Samudra Beach located at Kovalam in the district of Thiruvananthapuram of Kerala, can be accessed only by opting for an alternate route past the Kovalam Junction. It is a delightful sight to see the waves crashing on the sturdy rocks beneath as you take a walk along the vast stretch of sea wall in here. Kovalam initially received attention when the Regent Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bayi of Travancore elevated her beach resort, Halcyon Castle, in this place heading at the end of 1920s. Only after that, the place was brought to the public attention by her nephew who was the then Maharaja of Travancore. The European invites and guests of the then Travancore Empire realized the potentiality of Kovalam beach ideal as a tourist spot in the 1930s. At the beginning of seventies, arrived several hippies on their way while traveling to Ceylon in the Hippie Trail. This flight resulted into the transition of Kerala’s casual fishing village into one of the most popular and important tourist destinations across the country. Shallow waters extending to a range of hundreds of meters are perfect for swimming. Apart from this, the beaches are blessed with headlands covered in steep palm; also lined with stores that provide all types of goods and services.

Thiruvananthapuram Central Bus stand is located just 16 km away from the beach. The buses and the roads, both, due to the number of several tourists traveling, are maintained in a good condition. You can reach the place in a time span of just 40-45 minutes through the roadways.

By Water

Boats travelling from the main areas of the Kerala like Kochi, Mangalore etc. take a halt here. Apart from that the Vijhinjam’s sea port is at a distance of just 3 km from the beach. The proposed, upcoming International Trans shipment Terminal located at Vizhinjam is near to Kovalam.

Weather

Days in the place are pretty hot and humid, while the nights are pleasingly cool and breezy. The coziest season of this area is the summer. Quite heavy rainfall is experienced by this beach town during the rainy season. On the other hand, winter of this place is moderate and pretty mild. Yet, in core winter season, days are coldish usually than summer and nights can be a bit frosty.  The perfect time to visit this beach town can be defined from the September to March. This period of time is determined as winter season; because of both bright sunny days and breezy chiller nights. This is the prime reason, numerous tourists get attracted to this place from all over the world.
