Famous Waterfalls in the State

Jog Falls

This is an important tourist destination, not only in the state, but also in India. These falls are visited all through the year for their beauty and majestic flow of milky-white water. Located in the Shimoga district, Jog Falls can be easily accessed from other famous places like Bangalore, Hubli, Murudeshwar and the like. The height of these falls is 253m and it is formed on the Sharavati River. The water that flows into a depth of 253m is classified into four main falls. They are named as Raja, Rani, Rover and Rocket.

Iruppu Falls

This is yet another beautiful waterfall in Karnataka. It is located at just about 20km away from the famous Nagarhole Wildlife Sanctuary. These falls are known as Lakshmana Theertha, because as per legend, these falls were formed as a result of an arrow shot by Lord Lakshman into the Brahmagiri Hills. The height of these falls is 170feet. At the base of these falls, there is a famous Rameshwara temple. It is believed that the main Shiva Linga here was installed by Lord Ram himself. All these religiously significant facts make these falls an excellent tourist-cum picnic spot.
