Madame Tussauds Museum in London is a world famous wax museum and has displays of life-size wax statues of famous people all over the world. India too is not far behind when it comes to wax museums. In India, there are quite a few numbers of wax museums though they are relatively unknown. A wax museum that stands apart from other museums with respect to its exhibits is the Melody World Wax Museum in Mysore in Karnataka.

As the name suggests, this wax museum is on the world of music. It has wax statues and figures of musicians, musical instruments, and also bands from different parts of the world. Perhaps, this is the only one such museum in the world.

History

The whole credit of building this unique and splendid museum goes to Bangalore based IT professional Shreeji Bhaskaran. An avid wax craft enthusiast, Shreeji has been a part of many wax museum projects, the first one being the museum at Ooty which was set up in 2007. The very next year, he had another museum set up in Old Goa. He has also made some very notable wax statues, mainly of celebrities. One of his most famous projects is displayed in the Goa Wax Museum. It is titled ‘The Last Supper’ and has garnered applause from visitors all over the world.

It was Shreeji’s idea to set up a wax museum on music in Mysore. Unlike other museums, wax museums need special attention and preservation. Shreeji and his wife Reena have been able to preserve and handle the museum with utmost care and precision and they have used modern computer technology to manage the museum.

The Attractions

There are 19 galleries in the museum each depicting a facet of music. There are around 110 life size wax statutes of musicians and more than 300 musical instruments from all over the world are created in wax here. There are wax representation of musical concerts, performances and programmes. There are also wax models of different bands from different musical genre.

From Stone Age to modern era, from tribal music to jazz music, one can find all types of musical instruments at the Melody World Wax Museum in Mysore.

It is not just a representation of music that one can see here but a connection between society and music. A grand wax statue of the then king of Mysore, Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar is a highlight of the museum.

Those who wish to travel through the different and varied stages of music and know about musical instruments and musicians from all over the world should visit this unique museum.

The Melody World Wax Museum is open on all days of the week from 9.30 am to 7 pm.
