Infant Jesus Church Bangalore

Being established in 1971, Infant Jesus Church, a Roman Catholic Church located in Vivek Nagar in Bangalore, is devoted to infant Jesus Christ. This shrine is one of most renowned shrines constructed to memorialize the historical figure of Infant Jesus Christ of Prague. Since the time of its inception, a number of miraculous events have been associated with it which has further added to its rising popularity. Further in 2005, this church was extended to include a new building just adjacent to old one.

History

This church was founded on 18th April, 1969 by Reverend Duraisamy S. Lourduswamy, who was the Archbishop of Bangalore at that time. After this, in May, 1971, Reverend Fr. L. Peter was appointed as the foremost parish priest. He was the one who brought the revered figurine of Infant Jesus Christ to the church from Scared Heart Shrine in Bangalore and started a new tent cathedral at the place. With this, the congregation was continually held for coming 8 years and after this the church was finally inaugurated on 29th June, 1979, by Reverend D.S. Lourduswamy.

This church gained more popularity when numerous miracles came to be associated with it. Being inspired by these miraculous events, a Tamil move was made by the name of Kuzhanthai Yesu in 1984.

2005 Onwards

The church building as it exists today was inaugurated by Reverend Dr. B. Moras, the Archbishop of Bangalore, on 9th June, 2005. This church has a big hall which is shaped like a fan and has a seating capacity of about 2500. This building was creatively designed by the famous architects, K. Thomas & Associates in Bangalore. Its central mural is designed in such a manner so as to replicate nativity scene of another Nativity Church in Bethlehem.

Over all these years, there has been a significant increase in the number of people attending the mass, especially on Thursdays. As on date, this church is frequented by about 10000 people belonging to different religions. On Thursdays, seven masses are specially organized at this Church in several languages.

Further, every year on 14th January, a grand feast is organized and this celebration has been observed here since 1971. On this day, thousands of spectators gather around to watch various holy ceremonies which are organized in the Church.
