Trekking and Camping

Dense forests, magnificent mountains, grand waterfalls, incredible natural settings – all these call trekkers and campers. Trekking in the Western Ghats is a thrilling experience. The state features long trekking trails that pass through thick jungles. Places like Coorg, Kudremukh, Ramanagara, Dandeli, Bramhagiri, Irrupu Falls, Devarayanadurga, Pushpagiri, Kemmangundi, and Tadiyandamol are perfect trekking spots in Karnataka.

Edakumeri is a unique and one of the most beautiful spots featuring thick green forest. It is on the railway track that stretches about 52 kms. Besides this, BR Hills, MM Hills, Nagarhole National Park, Bandipur National Park, and Bannerghatta National Park feature exotic wildlife of the state.

Rock Climbing

Karnataka is the place to be for both beginners and professionals in rock climbing. The biggest monolith of Asia is here – Savandurga. The second highest monolith is also here – Madhugiri. The state features rocky cliffs spanning vast areas with huge boulders.

Ideal rock climbing areas of Karnataka are found in Kunti Betta, Antara Gange, Hampi, Badami, Kabbal Durga, New Rocks, Raogodlu, and Turahalli.

Ramanagara is an interesting place. It is called the “Mecca of rock climbers.” Amateur rock climbers can become professionals here. The place features climbs of different grades, plus bolted routes here and there, spread over several kilometers. Rock climbers can reap the benefits of artificial rock climbing walls in Davanagere and Bengaluru.

Mountain Biking

Karnataka features long jungle trails that pass through undulating streams and a thick network of trees. The trails are enveloped in fantastic scenery around Cauvery Valley.
Dandeli Forest is one of the best places for this adventure. It features an easy trail for beginners and difficult trails for professionals.

Go-Karting

Bengaluru is India’s hot spot for Go-Karting. The place features three full-fledged tracks for this adventure sport. The first karting track came into existence in Whitefield, near ITPL. The next one is in RT Nagar. The latest one is at Palace Ground.

Go-Karting might be a new adventure sport for Indians; but it is fast catching up with adventurers. Racing tracks vary from 350 meters to 400 meters in length, constituting a single lap. The RT Nagar race track conducts races every weekend. There are fantastic prizes for winners.

Angling

The regal River Cauvery offers fishing and nature camps. It is now the home of the Mahseer – the world’s toughest fresh water fighting fish. It is found only in India. It weighs more than 100 pounds. Indian river waters house four varieties of this fish – Black Mahseer, Golden Mahseer, Silver Grey Mahseer, and Silver Mahseer.

Bheemeshwari, located at a distance of 100 kms from Bengaluru; Doddamakali; and Galibore are the three terrific places in Karnataka for angling.

Water Sports

Tourists coming to Karnataka can experience the ecstasy of white water rafting in River Kali. They can feel the thrill of coracling in River Sharavati, and canoeing and kayaking in River Cauvery.

Karnataka’s 320 km long coastline offers incredible spots for sea sports too. Tourists can scuba dive at Devbagh, surf at Marawanthe Beach, power sail, water ski, sail, water sledge, and do lots more at the various beaches of the state.

Aero Sports

Bengaluru is the ideal destination for aero sports in India. Tourists can engage themselves in hang-gliding, para-gliding, para-sailing, micro light aircraft, and more such adrenalin-pumping activities in this “IT hub” of South India.

Nandi Hills offer an excellent sport for para-gliding. The splendid Jakkur airstrip laid amidst 1 km tall wild grass near Hebbal Lake is the hub of aero sports. Bengaluru organizes the Aero India Show, which is a leading Indian air show featuring the latest aviation technology. It displays avionics from across the world. Even those not interested in aero sports attend the show to get mesmerized by the sheer technology in air.

Cave Exploration

Venturing into a cave of the prehistoric times is an adventure in itself. Karnataka has a range of caves. Some are pitch black in darkness; some exude high spirituality; some are dripping wet – most of them feature paintings and carvings done by ancient people. The state has a lot of cave temples.

Ancient caves at Tumkur, Kolar, Antara Gange, and Siddrabetta are a call to adventure lovers. Badami in North Karnataka has a series of artistically carved cave temples. Some of the caves in the state can test the physical fitness and even the guts of tourists.

Bio-Diversity Tours

The Western Ghats of Karnataka are one of the bio diversity sites of the world. Tourists can enjoy bio-diversity tours at Kumta, Dandeli, Sirsi, Yellapur, Honnavar, and Bejadi in Dakshin Kannada district of Karnataka. Visitors can find rare indigenous communities residing in some of these places.
