Vaishno Devi Temple is located at a distance of 50 Km from the winter capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir i.e. “Jammu”. Jammu has a broad gauge railway station and is well connected with almost all parts of the country by train. There are direct trains from far off places like Trivandrum to Jammu. The nearest airport is also at Jammu and regular bus and prepaid taxi services are available from both railway station and airport to the base camp of Vaishno Devi temple at Katra. Apart from these interstate buses, almost all the major North Indian cities have buses that are run directly to Katra. The Vaishno Devi Mata shrine is located at a distance of 13 Km from the Katra base camp. Excellent walking tracks with all the basic amenities are available for the passengers on the way to the uphill. The journey from Katra to Bhawan where the temple is located is to be done on foot. However, facilities of pony service, Doli’s and pithoos are available for old people, women and children who cannot undertake this tiresome journey. The Shrine board has recently commenced an air taxi service from Jammu to Katra. This facility is also available between Katra to Sanjichat. The rates are very nominal.

Flight Facility to Jammu

The nearest airport to the temple is at Jammu, which is well connected with the national capital. Flights of Jet Airways and Indian Airlines operate daily from Delhi. The duration of the flight from Delhi to Jammu is approximately one and half hour.

Trains to Jammu

Jammu is well connected with all the major cities of India. During festive seasons and vacation periods, Indian Railway introduces numerous special trains from important destinations keeping in mind the comfort of the pilgrims. There are several superfast trains plying from different places. Rajdhani operates from Delhi to Jammu and the journey is overnight.

Road Connectivity to Jammu

The Jammu city is also connected well by road. NH1A passes through the city and further goes towards Srinagar. The importance of the temple has ensured that there is almost a bus from all the major cities of North India. The temple is worshipped with utmost devotions by most of the North Indians. The state road transport corporations of various states operate Volvo, deluxe buses up to Katra and Jammu. Apart from this, there are many tour operators who undertake a complete tour which includes transport and accommodation from various destinations in North India.

Helicopter Service

Helicopter services are available from Katra to Sanjichat. The Global Vectra and Pawan Hans helicopter service operates to the foothills. The journey from Katra amidst the clouds and magnificent landscape makes your journey memorable.  

The registration process for the booking is very simple. Just register yourself using the New Devotee sign up link. Create your username and password, now close all the links and log in using the newly created user name and password. Select the Helicopter Services, then select the date of travel and the passenger details. Once you are finished with the passenger details, you will be routed to the payment gateway. You can select the mode of payment debit card, credit card or internet banking. Once you have made the payment successfully using your choice of mode of payment, the booking is considered completed. Finally, you can take a print out of the ticket.

(B) Katra-Sanjichat-Katra (return helicopter flight): Rs. 2200/- per
person. The pilgrim on production of the return boarding pass gets priority
darshan at the Shrine.
