Seasons

In the morning, temperatures increase to a maximum of 23 degrees, but the nights are comparatively colder. Weather is very favourable for the tourists to take delight of this heavenly land. The rustle of the fallen leaves, the fragrance of flowers, the vibrant valleys are there to charm you.

The arrival of Autumn, towards September is possibly the prettiest season of Kashmir. The green changes to gold, red and russet.

Winter in Jammu and Kashmir set in the month of December. It is extremely cold. The trees have a bare look. There is an altogether different charm in the environment. The landscape is snow covered. It is a treat to the eyes.

The winter season sets into fall and wraps the valley by December. Himalayan chakore & Wild duck shooting season and skiing at Gulmarg starts at this time. One can enjoy the ice skating if by any chance the Dal-lake freezes. Heli-skiing has also started in certain areas from 1987.

Best Season / Best Time to Visit Jammu

  • Jammu has a cool and pleasant climate for a major part of the year and can be stayed from September to April.
  • Summer is hot and temperature can reach up to 45°C. Summer is good for sightseeing and compelling the sacred Amarnath pilgrimage.
  • Winter (November to February) is cold with temperature dropping to freezing temperature. Snowfall occurs.
  • Monsoon is viewed during June to August. The area gets a good amount of rainfall.
  • Autumn (September to November) is flowering season. Jammu is very attractive during this period.
  • The city of Jammu goes through subtropical climate. It is categorized by frosty winters with snowfall and hot summers. The best time to visit the city is during the festival like Ramnavami (March), Lohri or Makara Sankranti (January), Deepavali (October) when the entire town gets soaked in these celebrations.
