Dal Lake

How to Reach Dal Lake

Srinagar Airport is the nearest airport for Dal Lake. The closest railhead is Jammu. However, from Srinagar one needs to travel around 305 km to reach Dal Lake. There are bus services available connecting Srinagar and Dal Lake. Private taxis are also available for the convenience of the tourists.


Dal Lake experiences humid subtropical climate. It is much cooler than most parts of India. Winters are cold in the region with temperatures going below freezing point. Summers are warm and dry. The wettest season is spring and autumn is the driest season in the area around Dal Lake.

Best Time to Visit

The beauty of this lake attracts a large number of tourists throughout the year. However, July and August are regarded as the best time to visit Dal Lake. Many tourists also regard April to June as the best time to visit the Lake since it looks beautiful with blossomed lotus all over the lake. It is therefore also called Lotus Lake. Walking along the Coast of Dal Lake during spring season is considered an experience of a lifetime.
