Kullu Manikaran Kasol

Among scenic views of the snow covered mountains and offering peaceful ambiance; Kullu is a small hill station in Himachal Pradesh. The town is bestowed with wonderful natural resources and provides tourists with wonderful sightseeing opportunities and adventure sports. There are several religious sites too in and around Kullu that are great to visit.

About 42Km from Kullu at an altitude of 1640m is the pretty town of Kasol. For nature enthusiasts and trekkers, Kasol is an ideal destination. The fresh air and scenic beauty is just enthralling. Located along the Parvati River, Kasol is a great place to enjoy exciting adventure activities.

A little further from Kasol is the town of Manikaran. Known for its hot springs and religious importance, Manikaran sees several pilgrims and tourists visiting the destination. There are several treks and other exciting activities that tourists can enjoy while in the area.

Attraction for Tourists


Raghunath Temple (Kullu)

This temple is believed to be built in 1660 AD in a mixed pyramidal and pahari style of architecture. Around 45 festivals are celebrated in the temple every year. The priests say that the idol in the temple is the one that Lord Rama used when performing the Ashwamedha Yagya.

Vaishno Devi Temple (Kullu)

This temple is located about 3Km from the town in a small cave. The temple has an idol of Goddess Durga and was established in 1964 AD by a saint.

Bisheshwar Temple and Bijli Mahadev Temple (Kullu)

Both these temples are located about 14Km from Kullu. The Bisheshwar Temple was built in the 8th century. The Bijli Mahadev Temple is built on a hill at an altitude of 1924m and is dedicated to lord Shiva.

Sri Ramachandra Temple (Manikaran)

Dedicated to Lord Rama, the temple houses the original idol of Lord Rama from Ayodhya. The idol in the temple was installed by the king of Kullu. The temple holds a lot of significance and sees thousands of visitors every year.

Adventures Options


There are several treks that start from Kullu, Kasol and Manikaran. Kasol especially serves as base camp for several Himalayan treks such as SarPass, Pin Parbati Pass, Yanker Pass and Khiriganga. A number of treks can be found in Spiti valley, Lahaul valley, Zanskar and Ladak. The Putasar Lake trek is also a wonderful journey. The treks pass along deep forests, beautiful terrain and streams. The best time to embark on trekking trips in the region is from April to June and September to October.


Skiing is one of the best activities that can be enjoyed in the Kullu region. The best season to enjoy skiing in the area is from mid-December to June. The slopes of Bhrigu peaks are perfect for skiing. There are also several skiing options in the Solang Valley.

River Rafting

The Parvati River is ideal for enjoying white water rafting. Travelling a little further the Beas River also offers a great river rafting experience.

Best Tips

Fresh trout delicacies are a must try. Dimsums are also quite popular in the area. Kullu and its surrounding areas are known for selling freshly picked fruits especially apples.

Kullu / Manikaran / Kasol Shopping

Kullu offers authentic handicrafts. The best things to buy in Kullu include shawls, Tibetan carpets, woollens made of yak wool, dry fruits, etc. The Bhuttico shops in Kullu sell original shawls and handicrafts.

Kasol has a few shops along the main road. Most of these shops serve apparels both Indian and western.

There are a few shopping places in Manikaran where visitors can find accessories for adorning temples at home. Close to the Manikaran Sahib Gurudwara, visitors can find shops selling ‘kadas’ and other accessories.

Tourist's Travel Route to Kullu / Manikaran / Kasol

There is an airport close to Kullu at Bhuntar about 10Km from Kullu. Flights are available to major cities such as New Delhi and Chandigarh. The closest railway station is located at Chandigarh about 258Km and Pahatnkot at 285Km.

Kullu is best connected by roads. All the major towns and cities in Himachal Pradesh are connected to Kullu. There is an excellent inter-city bus system connecting Kullu to other towns and cities. Private transport can also be hired to reach Kullu. From Kullu reaching Kasol and Manikarn is easy. Both these destinations are connected to Kullu by road and public and private transport is available conveniently.
