The first person who comes to our mind when we think about Gujarat is the Father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi. He was born as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in Porbandar town of the state; Gandhiji went on to be known as the Father of the nation and as the Mahatma. He spearheaded the non-violence movement in the freedom struggle and was one of the main reasons for the nation getting independence from the British Rule. He was assassinated within a year of independence and till date, he remains the most famous person to have been born in the state of Gujarat.

Another important man from the field of politics, who was born in the state of Gujarat, was Sardar Vallabhai Patel. He came to known as the Iron Man due to his headstrong decisions and fearless attitude displayed during administration. Gandhiji's freedom movement encouraged a young Patel to participate in the freedom struggle. By the time India got independence, Sardar Vallabhai Patel who was a qualified lawyer by profession, emerged as one of the most promising political leader of young India. He was also hugely responsible in creating the Indian Republic and was one of the first leaders of the Indian National Congress Party. He passed away in 1950 however is still considered as one of the true samples of the Gujaratis.

He went on become the brain behind the launch of India's first and foremost satellite. He was inclined towards science, specially, science of the spaces ever since his school days and the seeds were sown quite strongly in him during his growing up years which led him to become one of the best space scientists that the country has ever produced. He devoted his entire life to the development of sciences and he breathed his last in 1971. There are lots of institutions in Gujarat, especially in Ahmedabad, which speak volumes about the contributions of Vikram Sarabhai even today, years after his death.

The world of business has not one, but two reasons to thank Gujarat for. Gujarat gave the field of business, two of its most astute businessmen ever; Jamshedji Tata and Dhirubhai Ambani. Jamshedji Tata is the flag bearer of the world famous Tata group today. He belonged to the Parsi community and he started venturing into diverse fields of businesses across India and abroad.
