Gallerie Alternatives
The Gallerie Alternatives is a first in its kind of art gallery displaying Indian Contemporary Art to the art lovers in the city of Gurgaon. The gallery was opened in January 1999 and reveals art work like paintings, drawings, sculptures, and art pieces by renowned senior artists and by upcoming talent. The gallery also exhibits artwork from artists from Spain, Germany and Australia. A comprehensive range of work is put up in the gallery by artists like Amba Das, Anita Dube, Asim Pal, Dhara, and Diptish Ghosh etc. The Gallerie hosts group art shows, work display by individual artists, drawing and painting competitions, Art fair, Art Summit, Field trips, Art tours etc. It gives platform to amateur artists to craft innovation in the field of arts. The exhibits at the Gallerie have earned a place in the written media always, The Financial Express, The Indian Express, The Hindustan Times newspapers have written feedbacks on art work. Also Seeking balance in dichotomy article by The Hindustan Times, Interview of Manu Dosaj in the article The Wall Art Journal published in Bombay Sapphire, The Asian Age, Gurgaon Times.etc display the increasing the popularity of fine art in the recent generation.
History
In the past gallery has hosted many cultural events displaying art diversity. Indo-Danish Painters meet was organized by the gallery in the year 2003, where four senior Danish artists with four Indian artists’ work were introduced. The aim of the painters meet was to mix artwork of senior artists and young artists from two different countries; hence the name of the meet was Crosscurrents. There are theatre and art workshops organized by the artists for the children. The Gallery along with Cambridge University and British Council had organized a spot painting competition in the year 2001 where huge number of contestants participated. Also in collaboration with HSBC Bank the Gallery Alternative in the year 2002 exhibited artwork from leading artists. The Gallerie Alternatives has organized exhibitions in leading hotels like Leela Kempinski and Hotel Le Meridian in Gurgaon.
Aims and Objectives
The objective of the Gallerie Alternative is to foster new and young talent in the field of art. The Gallerie also aims at making the fine arts easily reachable to common public who are art enthusiasts and who can appreciate and encourage good work.
Collections
The gallery currently display artwork created by Jatin Das – Charcoal on paper, Yusuf Arakkal – Oil on canvas, Jitish Kallat, Trupti Patel and A Ramachandran’s water color on paper. Sculptures are put up by Hemi Bawa, Pushpa Devi, Sukhdev, Tapas Biswas, and Viky Arya etc. The art lovers can find list of artists whose work is currently displayed in the Gallerie on the website. In the past few years the gallery witnessed various exhibitions like The Story of Grain, Flow in the Light, Indian Art Fair 2013, Seamless Challenges 2012, India Art Fair 2012, India Art Collective 2011, India Art Summit 2011 and Art Celebrates 2010, Sports & the City.
