Dadra & Nagar Haveli - The Land for all Seasons

The Union Territory, Dadra and Nagar Haveli are present in the western part of India. Dadra serves as an enclave that is about 1 km NW bounded by Gujarat, whereas Nagar Haveli lies between Gujarat and Maharashtra. They share Silvassa as their capital. The major portion of this place is covered by large c-shaped area of about 12 to 30 km by an up-river flowing from Daman towards the coast. There is Madhuban reservoir lying outside the territory.

Haveli is situated at the centre of calm heaving watershed of Daman Ganga River that flows through the reservoir and enter into Nagar Haveli followed by Dadra border. The northern bank of the river makes up Silvassa and Dadra towns. There is Western Ghats in eastern direction and a range of foothills dominate eastern part of district. The territory is in the stage of landlocked and Arabian Sea settles in west of Gujarat.

Till 1779, Nagar and Dadra together with Silvassa were ruled by Marathas. 72 villages that come under this territory were presented to Portuguese on the background of friendship. They ruled this place till August 2, 1954 and their traces are still found here.

Dadra and Nagar Haveli came under India in 1961 and since then, it is functional as Union Territory with Silvassa as their capital.

The place is still known for its historic past. The major tourist attraction of this place is the Church of Our Lady of Piety (Silvassa). Another popular tourist attraction in Silvassa is the Bindrabin temple.
