Tandoori Chicken

Tandoori chicken is a popular Chicken dish prepared using spices and curd.  It derives its name from the earthen oven of cylindrical shape called “Tandoor” using which the dish is prepared.   This dish is also popular in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan and some South Asian countries.  Tandoori Chicken is used as a starter before the main course meal.

Butter Chicken

Butter chicken is another popular chicken dish.  This dish is prepared in different forms in different places. However, ingredients like chicken, butter and spices remain the same. This dish can be prepared using chicken with bones or boneless.  The dressed chicken is marinated overnight with curd, spices, pepper powder, chili powder, coriander powder, ginger garlic paste and cumin seeds. Marinated chicken is roasted in a Tandoor in traditional butter chicken. However, it can either be grilled or fried in a pan.  Sauce for the dish is prepared using tomato puree, spices, cinnamon, cloves, cumin, cashew paste, coriander, pepper and fenugreek in hot butter. Dry fenugreek leaves (Methi) is responsible for providing aromatic flavor for Butter chicken.  After preparation of sauce and roasting of chicken, both are placed in a container and cooked to ensure the gravy gets blended with chicken pieces.  Butter chicken can be garnished with fresh cream, butter, Kasuri methi and green chilies. It is served with wheat Rotis, naan, rumali roti, paratha or rice.
