Naan
Naan is a type of flatbread which is baked in an oven. Naan is popular in South, Central and West Asian countries. This item is served hot and sometimes butter is applied on it to enhance its taste. It can be eaten with gravies and curries. At times it is also stuffed with fillings in the form of minced meat (Kheema Naan) or cottage cheese (Paneer Naan). Other forms of Naan include the Kashmiri Naan and Peshawari naan which contains fillings of dry fruits and raisins. Roghani naan is popular in Pakistan; it contains Naan sprinkled with sesame seeds. Kulcha is also another variant of Naan. Amritsari Kulcha is a type of naan which contain fillings of onion, spices and mashed potatoes. The dough prepared for naan is added with nigella and cumin seeds. In Pakistan people have naan with local dish called balti. This has made table naan popular in Pakistan region.
Aloo Paratha
Aloo Paratha (Potato paratha) is a popular breakfast dish prepared in most of North, West, and Central part of the country. In this dish mashed potatoes and spices are stuffed into the dough of Parathas. It is then rolled out and placed on a hot tawa for cooking. Ghee or butter is applied for better taste. Aloo paratha is served with pickle, chutney and in some parts it is served with curd also. Lassi is the seasonal drink offered with Aloo Paratha.
Bhatoora
Bhatura or Bhatoore is deep fried, large sized fluffy bread consumed in North India. It is eaten in combination with Chole (chickpea curry) which gives it the traditional name chole bhature.
Poori
Puri is a small sized, deep fried unleavened Indian bread consumed in all parts of the country. It is usually consumed as a breakfast dish with curries or bhaji’s. It is also had at times like light snack.
Puri is also served on important ceremonies, marriages and other rituals. It also forms part of the Prasadam in Hindu rituals. In Georgian Puri also means Bread.
