Singh Shaheedan

The Gurudwara Singh Shaheedan is located in Sohana, very near to Mohali city in Punjab state, India. From Chandigarh, its distance is around 23 Kms. The famous Gurudwara was constructed in the memory of martyr (Shaheed) Jathedar Baba Hanuman Singh Ji, the 7th Jathedar of Budhadal and the Jathadar of Akal Takth Sahib and other 500 Sikhs who prevail martyrdom while fighting against British forces during Anglo-Sikh Wars at the age of 90 years. Wooden shoes of martyrs have been preserved inside this Gurudwara. A Sarovar also presents in its compound. People from distant as well as neighbouring place come to visit this Gurudwara to get the blessings of Gurus.

History

On 18th November 1755, Baba Hanuman Singh Ji was born at Narangpur Wala. Sardar Garga Singh Bath and Mata Harnam Kaur were their parents. After the death of its powerful leader, Maharaja Ranjit Singh and top administrators General Lal Singh and Gulab Singh Dogra, the Sikh State was in devastating condition. In this worse situation, Maharani Jind Kaur sent a letter to Baba Ji through General Sham Singh Attariwala at Akal Takth Sahib, Amritsar for the security of the state.

Baba Ji instantly responded to this worsening situation and on December 1845, he sent the fighters to the battle field of Muddiki. Around 10,000 Anglo Soldiers died in this brutal war. At last, the enemy ran way and they won the fight. But, a spy Karam Singh also known by the name Karma Ali told the opponent to attack with gun fire, as Nihangs were lacking in such support. The enemy attacked with powerful gun fire and as a result around 15,000 Sikh soldiers were martyred. All the dead bodies were cremated at Gurudwara Dukhniwaran Sahib.

Baba ji along with 500 warriors who were fighting in the war headed for Gharam and were badly injured with gun fire. They all reached this place passing through Rajpura and ultimately, Baba ji embraced martyrdom. The management and the followers were highly obliged to the great personality with remarkable force who accepted the request to help them.

This Gurudwara was raised in their memory under the direction and supervision of Sant Baba Harbans Singh Ji Karseva Bangla Sahib Delhi. The Gurudwara Sahib Shaheedan has been constructed at the cremation place in remembrance of Baba Ji.

Martyr’s Day

Every month, the day which falls on the 10th day from the new moon is is celebrated as “Martyrs Day”. For achievement of positive aim in life, five such participations are considered bless full.

Prayer Timings

Morning Prayer includes Nitname, Prakash and Hukumnama of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Shahabad Simran, Path Shri Sukhmani Sahib, Assa De war, Ardas and Hukumnama and Katha and Kirtan. The morning prayers start at around 1 AM and continuously performed one after one and end at around 6 AM.

The evening prayer comprises with Path Sri Rahrass Sahib  Ardas, Hukumnama, Aarti, Kirtan, Ardass, Hukumnama, Kirtan Sohla and Sukhasan. The evening prayer starts at 6PM and end till 7.30-8.00 PM.

Birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji is celebrated in this Gurudwara.

Martyrdom day of Gurus

Thousands of devotees visit the Gurudwara on this day and also take part in special programs.

Guru Gaddi Divas

This is the day when Guru Gobind Singh announced the second edition of Granth Sahib.

Khalsa Sathapna Divas and Baisakhi

Both these are celebrated on the same day and falls on 13 or 14 of April month. On this day, Guru Gobind Singh, the Tenth Guru, had created Khalsa by preparing and managing Amrit, the sacred drink, to his devotees. Baisakhi is also known as Basant Panchami and is an Indian festival in general.

Best Visiting Time

Singh Shaheedan Gurudwara in Sohana, Punjab can be visited throughout the year. But the best time to visit this Gurudwara is winter season.

How to Reach

By Bus

Singh Shaheedan Gurudwara is located at a distance of 23 Kms from Chandigarh bus stand. Chandigarh transport and other private buses are frequently run from this bus stand to reach the destination. One can also take the taxi and cab from Chandigarh.

By Air

Chandigarh airport is the nearest to Sohana. One can easily get the cab from the airport itself and reach the Singh Shaheedan Gurudwara easily.

By Train

Chandigarh railway station is the closest station to Sohana. After reaching the station, one can catch the cab and auto rickshaws at affordable prices.
