In and around Chandigarh, there are several wonderful places which act as a perfect place for excursions. Pinjore Garden is the place one among those tourist destinations usually visited by people during their holiday to Chandigarh or while travelling to Shimla from Chandigarh. Pinjore Gardens, Chandigarh can also be known as Yadavindra Gardens is located around 20 km distance from Chandigarh, 15 km distance from Panchkula, comfortable situated on the Chandigarh Shimla national highway road number 21. There are many buses and taxis that connect Pinjore with Chandigarh, Panchkula and Kalka. The wonderful Pinjore Garden (earlier known as Mughal Garden) covers up a total land of 100 acres. One can enjoy plants nursery, mini zoo, historic palaces, picnic lawns and much more. Particularly during weekends, the fountains get switched on after sunset together with the lights illuminate the beauty of the historical palaces in the night. This magnificent and wonderful garden was designed by Nawab Fadai Khan, a renowned architect and also foster sibling of great mughal emperor Aurangzeb. He designed this Pinjore Garden based on the classical pattern of Charbagh, leaving a central water way in this area. On either side of this water way, there are patches of green lined with flowers and also shaded trees. He also controlled the building of Rang Mahal (known as painted palace), elegant Sheesh mahal (termed as palace of glass) and also cube-like Jal Mahal (known as palace of water).

Architecture of Pinjore Garden

Similar to other Mughal gardens, this Pinjore Garden also possess a sloping ground and are embellished with magnificent and amazing pavilions and fountains. There is a water way at the centre of this garden. Fountains are situated inside this water channel. There is a place to walk on both the sides of this water channel. The pathways are stretched with the presence of huge trees and green grass adding additional beauty to the allure, splendor and gracious Pinjore Garden. If one takes a walk straight downwards, there is a gigantic pavilion which provides spectacular sight of this total garden. This pavilion has a patio carrying a water body in its center. The Yadavindra Garden hosts special programs during Baisakhi festival (spring) during the month of April and also Mango festival during the months of June and July. This garden possesses shady and cool walks together with flagged pathways running till the outer area of walls covered with creepers. The final end of the doorway has been recently developed into disc-shaped open-air theatre to enthrall the tourists.

Attractions in Garden


Mini Zoo: There is a small and well maintained zoo having several kinds of birds and animals. Right from panthers and tigers to parakeets and peacock decorated this zoo.

Nursery: The nursery nurses little saplings. This nursery is the birth place for all the flowers which decorate the Pinjore Garden.

Japanese Garden: If one possesses knowledge about Ikebaana, then this is the perfect place to view them. This place is not new to Bonasi.
